InactiveI apologize in advance for this question but I noticed that Ariella has been collecting some white stuff in her private part (if I separate the labia I can see it) and it doesn’t smell so nice. I wash it off every time I bathe her (I try my best anyway). I guess my question is if it’s normal for her to have this so early on in her life?

InactiveAddy sometimes gets that in the morning after not having a diaper change overnight and it is usually from the diaper. (Pampers are bad about that!) I always make sure to wipe her every diaper change (front to back, of course
) and clean that white stuff off. I have never noticed any type of smell though. I think it can be a sign of a yeast infection if it is smelly which babies can get…anyone else know about this???June 10, 2007 at 11:06 pm #36243Anonymous
Inactive3 boys here!!! I know nothing about little girl parts.

InactiveDoes she seem to have pain when she goes?

InactiveWe get a bit of that as well, I always presumed it was the nappy cream I sometimes put on. I would just keep cleaning it up well and if you are worried maybe get it checked out.

InactiveI’m pretty sure that it’s normal. As long as it doesn’t seem to be bothering her, I wouldn’t worry about it.

InactiveWell, I have two girls, so I’ve seen this. With my two this white stuff will appear if they’ve gone a couple days without a bath, and that’s the only time iit s has any odor. I think that if it’s coming right back after you clean her that you should probably have it checked out.

InactiveI thought this was normal (I’m pretty sure it’s called “smegma”…. nice name, huh
). I know it’s normal in children and adults, so I assume in babies as well. We were told just to wash gently and that it was protective, so that there was no need to scrub it off, but it pretty much comes off with washing anyhow. But, I’ve never noticed anything smelling. If she’s having vaginal odour that sounds suspicious, so I’d show it to the doc, and see if he things that she has an infection brewing. Another thing that I’ve noticed is that at our daycare, they apply a LOT of diaper cream and that it collects inside of the labia and if I don’t wash that out it can get nasty. The first few times I thought that it was some kind of discharge, but then realized that it was diaper cream.June 11, 2007 at 2:43 pm #36314Anonymous
InactiveBrenda, she has no pain when she’s peeing and doesn’t show any discomfort.
Christine, it might be after a couple of days without a bath. We go to our vacation house on weekends and I don’t have anything to bathe her in (I do clean her in the sink quickly especially after #2) but it might be b/c I don’t give her a full bath
.Lori, I have to pay attention if it’s b/c of the creme that I use.
Everyone, I will bring it to the dr’s attn but first I have to see if it smells today. It’s not a foul odor (not like a yeast infection would smell) but smells like a discharge…umm, I can’t explain it but definitely not foul.

InactiveI bet it’s the bath issue then. I used to bathe my girls daily until Myles came along and with all of his issues things were hectic and I began to slack a little with the bathing, and that’s when I would notice it. Now in the few months we’re back to a bath almost every night, and no white stuff and no odor. I guess they just need a bath every night!!

InactiveChristine, I bathe Ariella every night before bed during the week. The bathroom in our vacation home is VERY uncomfortable and I would be risking sliping with her or dropping her (G-d forbid) so I choose not to risk it and just wait for Sunday night to bathe her on the weekend (so it’s really just Saturday night that she doesn’t get her bath). Anywho, I looked today and it doesn’t seem to smell so I guess we can rule out the infection?

InactiveProbably just keep an eye on it? Unless she was behaving unusually (Ok so whats unusal
) I would go with it being normal. Maybe next time you talk to your Dr just run it by him/her for piece of mind. -
