Inactivemy daughter is on losec mups which are not working due to becoming unstable when mixed. I am waiting for some caracream to come from the USA (i’m in th uk) but in the meantime is it ok to swap her back to the condensed version straight away?
She is so bad i don’t want to leave her like this!
Also i was gonna try and get an appointment at the drs next week to get the capsules you open and sprinkle on food as these seem more stable?
Is it ok to swap med forms like this? or will it take weeks again to work?
I feel i have to do something as she is in so much pain and not happy at all.

Also most people use capsules right?? are they just normal omeprazole capsules?

InactiveYes, it’s okay to switch forms of the same meds. In fact, we used to give one dose as a capsule, and another as a compound in the same day. As for the capsules, they’re just normal omeprazole capsules. I assume that you’re going to use them for the caracream? I did just want to warn you (so that you’re not disappointed)- CaraCream mixed with losec (omeprazole) tastes VERY bitter. Hailey wouldn’t take it, but if Kaylee is taking the MUPS okay, then she’s probably used to the taste. I hope it works for you.

InactiveWe loved caracream but it was difficult for us to get here. We also sprinkle the beads in food- but it has to be something acidic like applesauce or plums. Bananas and pears are not acidic enough to break the energetic coating enough so she gets the maximum efficacy of the drug. Then wait 30 mins. and feed a whole meal. It really has worked for us since dd was 5 months old. Another mom just posted on that subject this morning as well. Good luck! Sarah

Inactivethanks!
My options are:
Compounded omeprazole > tastes foul and becomes unstable for last 2-3 days, but seems to work well
Losec mups> not working at the moment but planning to mix them with caracream?
Omeprazole capsule> sprinkle on food, don’t know if this works better?
I guess it is trial and error as to what works the best!! Too many choices! I just want SOMETHING to work!

InactiveI hope the caracream arrives quickly. Definitely keep her on the compound for now!
Maybe you can use the compounded version up until it become unstable (because it’s been working well) and then use the caracream and capsules or mups until you get the next bottle of compound.
Good luck.

InactiveDouble check with marci-kids to see if you can use the caracream with the mups. They told us only capsules or generic tablets (that needed to be ground up first). I’m not sure if the MUPS are okay sice the whole tablet is coated. Also, CaraCream with omeprazole tastes different than CaraCream with lansoprazole because the drugs themself taste different.

InactiveDr Phillips said i could use caracream with it as i emailed him to ask why the mups weren’t working!!
But I’m thinking about changing to capsules anyway as this would be easier all round and the caracream means i can give it at anytime so this would be VERY helpful!!
