Inactiveafter reading sandersmom’s post.. it got me thinking… does Shane have an issue too all along and i didnt know it?!
he was born as a comfort feeder.. 6 oz. @ 4 weeks old. and would have more if i let him. than he became more “normal” around 4 mos-6 mos. than he began refusing a lot of bottles, but i summed it up to teething because he would eat SOO much babyfood and do fine. than around 7-8 mos. he got a lot pickier.. i thought. refusing most baby foods, and only wanting toast and bananas and that sort.so i thought o.k he only wants human food. but, now he will only eat a couple spoon fulls of any kind of baby food.. and than turn his head.. and refuse anymore. so than i panic and try and get anything i could in him.. the ONLY things he will eat now are blueberries.. a little toast/waffles.. cherrios..and sometimes some bananas! thats it.. everything else is a big ordeal. .i have come to HATE feeding time. oh ya, and he will have his morning bottle and afternoon bottle fine ( 6 oz.) but usually not his bedtime bottle well.. soo this is not a lot of food for the day AT ALL!
is this an issue?? i never thought it was because he will eat his favorite things just fine. i am not really sure what to do with this.. because he def. is on the skinny side.

InactiveCould just be the age??? Sometimes they just don’t want to stop long enough to eat. I remember going through phases like this with Claire. I would just keep fighting with her to eat other things. I really didn’t want a picky eater! I would use toys and other distractions and shovel in as much as I could. I would also let her eat with the family, sometimes even pretend to spoon out her food from the same bowls/dishes the family was using. For some reason, that worked sometimes.
That being said, however, I guess I would worry if I thought he wasn’t eating because of a pain issue. Does he seem like he is in pain?

Inactiveno, i dont think he is in pain.. he just will turn his head and absolutely refuse! thats why i never thought it was from that… i just dont know why he used to eat sooo much, and now wont! unless its cherrios, BUT he cant live off of cherrios! and i worry because his formula intake is like 15 ounces a day!

InactiveI know this is hard to do, but try to relax at feeding times. If he notices your stress and your drive to get food into him he will likely assert himself by refusing. The best thing you can do is put food on his tray and be as non-reative possible.
Try some reverse psychology. Somtimes I will sit down with a plate of food and not offer Myles any. (He sits in his highchair right next to me so he can see what’s on my plate). Often times he will screech and whine when he sees I have something he doesn’t, whereas if I just put it on his plate in the first place he won’t want it.
Myles is a picky eater and if he was my first I’d probably be more worried than I am. But Eliana was a picky eater too. She literally ate no table food except cheerios until she was 18 months old and she was probably close to 2 by the time she would eat balanced meals with fruits and veggies. But by 3 she was a great eater! She eats all kinds of fruits, berries, melons, and veggies. So, I have high hopes for Myles.

I’d let his weight gain tell you if he’s eating enough. If you’re worried ask if you can bring him in for a weight check every few weeks or once per month. If he’s gaining it will give you peace of mind and if he’s not then you’ll catch it early.
Good luck. I have a picky eater on my hands so I really do understand your concerns.

InactiveI agree with Christine…if he is gaining weight and doesn’t seem to be in pain, then I would think everything is fine. My ped said around 9 months the appetite startes to get smaller becuase they stop growing so quickly…so maybe that is just it…or maybe he is just picky. Oh and the reverse psycology is great! That is how I get Brianna to try almost every new food I offer her…I put it on my plate and then all the sudden it is the best food in the world!!

InactiveI would try not to worry Lauren. It sounds like he may be a bit fussy and have his own preferences.. we went through that with Sarah and I swear all she wanted to eat was cheese and cottage cheese. It drove me insane. And we weight Hailey at home btw. We just hold her and then subtract our own weight.

InactiveTay lives off of cheerios as well! Her formula intake is around 15 oz or less as well a day. Every meal I make tons of different foods for her just to get a few nibbles in, but it always ends up being a small handfull of cheerios or puffs and a little bit of bananas. Like Christine said, since this is my second, I know they will eventually make up for it. With Alexis I was very stressed during feeding as well, I wanted to make sure she got enough calories etc, I think I actually aided in her eating aversion, so I really backed off this time around.
