So for those of you who have 1 year old babies…. what it the sleeping schedule like? (christine, i think that myles has been doing one nap for a while).
Matthew is still not a great sleeper but he is at least falling asleep on the bed with me and paci and then i move him to his crib and he sleeps 7 or 8 hours in a row. If he wakes up, i can take him into bed and after an hour or so he will sleep for another hour or hour and a half… so nights are great!! Problem is napping… he is fighting the morning nap like crazy… he used ot be tired and want to go nap after 3 hours of being awake. I still try that but he just stays in bed for an hour or so until he is tired… but he needs it because he will sleep 1.5 hours…. same with the afternoon one – it is getting to be a really late nap…. are you guys going through the same? When do babies switch to one nap?? I think that it says in Weissbluth that they do at about 15 months, but could it be he wants to nap once?? UGGHHH
Thanks guys

It is pretty normal to start taking one nap around a year or a year and half. You could try holding him off for the morning nap untill he starts to act sleepy and then he may sleep for three hours or so, and only need the one nap.
Good luck. It is such a pain when we fianly have a schedule that works and they decided to change it.
August 20, 2006 at 2:03 pm #11684AnonymousInactiveColt started taking only one nap at 1 year old. But his afternoon nap got earlier and he took a longer nap. He used to take a nap around 4:00 and now he takes a nap around 12:00.
August 20, 2006 at 2:09 pm #11685AnonymousInactiveI know that most babies don’t go to one nap a day until 12 – 15 months but all three of mine made the switch before one year. But they were sleeping much more at night, so they could make until after luch without a nap. I’m not sure if Matthew could make it that long, but why not try it for a few days?
August 20, 2006 at 2:54 pm #11686AnonymousInactiveThank you guys… i think that i will prob try and stay on this schedule while in Spain and then in about 10 days try to do the switch slowly and see… it is so hard when we finally have a schedule and with feeding and all and this has been disrupting it… we want to go to 5 feedings during the day and are waiting for him to drop the morning nap so maybe this is good…

August 21, 2006 at 1:14 pm #11784AnonymousInactiveThanks Sarah – Matthew never sleeps more than 10 at night max and usually less but he has never really needed a lot of sleep… he only naps about 2 1 hour naps during the day
August 22, 2006 at 3:14 pm #11952AnonymousInactiveSorry Thais — only now saw this post. Most babies go to one nap at 12-18
months (with 15 months being average) but some do it sooner and some
later of course. Marisa currently sleeps 10-10.5 hours at night and 2.5-3
hours during the day (two naps). It does sound like Matthew might be trying
to go to one nap – you can try to hold him off and give an early lunch and
then one long afternoon nap or you can try to give him only a very short
morning nap (maybe 30 minutes) and then a longer afternoon one while you
are transitioning…
