InactiveI was just wondering how Christian was doing on the Periactin? Has it increased his appetite? We are finally picking up our prescription today and are going to start it tomorrow. I’m still not sure how or when I should give it to Noah. The doc said not to cycle it, but I’ve heard that’s the best way for it to keep working. How are you giving it to Christian?

InactiveHi Lisa. I don’t have any experience with periactin (unfortunately), but I just wanted to post this link for you. I wasn’t sure it you’d seen it already. Good luck!
Sorry, I had a hard time posting it so I bumped it on the other forum.

InactiveLisa
good to hear from you. How is Noah doing? With all the problems in this website i donĀ“t know if Laura is going to be around soon… i know she is also pretty busy… but she did log into the other forum so here is her post…. i guess it is working for Christian! If you go to other forum, the periactin posting is right there and seems like different people do different cycling….. (Laura – sorry to post here but maybe easier for Lisa)
Also, there is info on the other post about volumes that different people are giving children….we will go to our GI in a couple of weeks and she is great so maybe she will give me ideas about cycling and how it works best, so will let you know then
“I am always wondering about the timing. Right now Christian is 18lbs 12oz and is receiving 5ml 2x daily. We dose around 9 or 10 in the morning and then again around 8pm. It still makes him sleepy – but we do it before his nap/bedtime. His appetite has definitely improved since being on the meds. Somedays he can clean 1200 calories most of them by mouth (puree and milkshakes) – but it is by mouth.
We ran about 3 weeks on and 3 days off. His appetite decreased during the 3 days and with major weight gain needed – we started back up again.
Sure wish the doctor would give some direction – he avoided the question and his asst told me to ask at the follow up. GRRR not for like 2 more months. I will just follow my gut I think.”August 23, 2006 at 7:31 pm #12118Anonymous
InactiveCrazy busy. I can’t believe all that has been going on here. Ian is in pre-k, soccer, and swim lessons. Christian still gets therapy one day per week and is now going to daycare 3 part-time days per week…and crazy enough I am starting classes at the university again…behavioral psychology and I am going to try and do my research on children with feeding disorders…I am getting really sick of not having any answers from the peds/gis/therapists and such.
Christian is an eating machine on his meds – while on a “break” he can take it or leave it. He has even started eating solids (trix cereal is his new favorite). Granted it is not large quantity – we think his tongue gets tired after a few bites then the swallow becomes more difficult.
Christian is also now in a “special needs” trained home daycare. Today was his first day. He took 2 oz of yobaby from a “complete stranger”. He has NEVER done this before. And drank 2 1/2oz of milk from a sippy cup and received a 5oz tube feeding during his 5 hour stay today. I am so happy. We are hoping that the peer pressure and watching the other great eaters strikes a chord with him.
I hope that answered some of your questions. Kind of a ramble.

InactiveHope all continues to go well Laura. Glad to hear he’s doing well with the daycare. I wish we could get periactin here. Some eating would be nice…s&h’s mum2006-8-24 9:14:36

InactiveHey Laura – so glad things are going well….. we are starting periactin soon…. i hope it works for us too…. i met someone the other day whose kid, who is now 6, was on a tube until he was 1.5 years old and then all of the sudden started to eat on his own…. he was undiagnosed and is really a normal child… so maybe these kids just don’t want to eat.
How is the study going? You started yet?

InactiveI had my first day of class on Mon and another class begins tomorrow. no true studying yet – but I am in for a big semester. I hope that all just flows into sync soon.
We are trialing a “by mouth” approach today – NOT GOOD. Little stinker really wants to eat – but won’t. So back to tube feeding for my peace of mind. I think we might do a weight check on thurs – getting curious I am.
Thanks for asking.
