InactiveHey girls. Ariella is almost 9 mos and she’s crawling all over the place. She also learned how to pull herself up so that’s also fun for her to do all day long! My question is, what do you think about walkers? She does not sit on her mat and play her toys anymore (WHAT? she’d rather get stuck under the table or better yet, find a dirty spot on the floor and lick it, yack). I was thinking of putting her in a walker but not sure if I’m too thrilled with the idea. I heard that they’re not good for the baby’s spine and core muscles. What’s your opinion? Thanks.

InactiveWalkers that actually move around are not recommended any longer b/c of increaesd risk for head injury. You could try an exersaucer that is like a walker only stationary and those are still not recommended to be used for more than I think I read 30minutes at a time up to like 2-3 times/day as they do take away from babies ability to explore and work their leg/back muscles properly. They are okay from what I have read as long as you don’t over use them.

InactiveAddy hated to be confined in anything! I think thats why she was an early walker (she got good at it around 9 1/2 months). We bought an exersaucer with all the gadgets and gizmos and the big price tag and she used it maybe for a total of 30 minutes over 5 months!
We had a hungry hippo toy (push behind walker that converts to a riding toy). She liked that but I can definitely agree that they can be unsafe if a child isn’t extremely steady on his/her feet. We didn’t bring it out until Addy could cruise VERY well and had taken some steps on her own. Here’s a pic I found on ebay:

InactiveWe also used a similar thing to what Tracy had. Ours lit up and played music when it was pushed. Both of my older boys loved it.

InactiveWe got a walker and both girls hated it. Alexis did not even like push toys, she rather just cruise around using furniture. Taylor loves the push toys and does great with them but refuses to let go and walk without one!

Inactivemy son walked at 9.5 months….however he never cared for the walker much… even when he could walk on his own, he couldnt manouver himself in the walker, cause the thing is so darn heavy and bulky. i used it as an excersaucer, he just stood in it and played with the little toys on the tray. nataliachick72007-6-15 23:23:19
