InactiveWhat a bummer.
Traveling certainly is stressful with small children. And doing it last minute with the added complications you have is certainly going to be a challenge, but I have no doubt you can do it. We’ve all seen how strong you are with all you’ve been through with Justice. Good luck and let us all know how it goes.January 3, 2007 at 11:22 pm #21620Anonymous
InactiveYou are so sweet! Thank you for such kind words. I don’t feel strong at all. I have been yelling at poor Luke all day long. All he wants is attention, but I haven’t been able to give it to him. When he doesn’t get the attention he whines and cries and then I lose it. I want to be a good mom, but it is really hard with all that is going on. I just want to be able to breath again and be me. Maybe someday soon right.

Hang it there, things will get better.

I live about an hour or so from Adrian. There is not a lot of places for whole foods/health foods around here. There is a Whole Foods in Ann Arbor MI but it is at least 30 or so miles from Adrian. Also a select number of Krogers & Farmer Jacks sometimes carry a few items. I have tried a few items from them for my son; it is just finding which ones have the space to carry them.
Good Luck

InactiveShelby,
For the first 7 months of Myles’ life I spent my entire day pumping every 2 – 3 hours (starting at 4 am), doing 5 or 6 hour long feedings, cleaning puke off the walls, rugs, couches, etc. anywhere from 6 – 10 times a day, 5 or 6 loads of laundry every day, and of course taking care of a very needy, irritable, screaming infant. My girls were practically motherless. It was horrible, but at least he slept well. You haven’t had that luxury.
Anyway, I’m telling you this to encourage you that you will get through it and life will be “normal” again. And Luke will be ok. My girls don’t seem to even remember being on their own for all of those months. All I could for them was put a thrown together meal on the table three times a day and make sure they were clean. I was under so much stress and got no help from dh, so I yelled more than I should have too. Try telling him you’re sorry about the yelling and tell him it’s not his fault. Children are very forgiving, and he needs to know he’s not a bad kid.
One thing I learned a few months into the reflux nightmare with Myles was that even a very short time (10 or 15 minutes) with one or both of the girls made a very big difference for them. If I could squeeze in 10 minutes to color a picture with them, or read a book, or play tea party or whatever, just that small amount of individual attention would change their attitude and improve their behavior, and it made me feel better too.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the elimination diet provides answers and things will improve for you very soon.

InactiveHey,
so sorry I didn’t see this until now. I’m very sorry to hear about your grandmother. You’re probably already in MI, but I’ve traveled a lot on the diet. Taking food is good and you will need to check th elocal grocery stores. I’ve even called ahead to areas where I haden’t ever traveled to make sure the local health food store had things I needed. Again, I’m so sorry I didn’t see this until now. If you still need anything, please write. I’ll try to check email again tomorrow.
Remember, you can only do your best. You are in a stressful situation, and the best you can do is what you can offer your child– who already loves you like the sun and moon. When you start to feel overwhelmed just remember that with everyday you can start over, even within every day you can start over and try to find more patience, more energy, etc. etc. Try not to focus on the negative, especially right now with so many other important things to focus on.
Hope the travel went relatively well. ALso, if the diet went belly up while traveling, you can always just start over when you get home. It’s very difficult to do this diet in another house, or in a hotel situation (I’ve been there, it sucks!) So take heart, you can always just begin anew when you get home. Sending hugs your way…

InactiveThank you all so much. We are back and the diet did go out the window. We were going here and there all the time and eating out a lot. However, I have been able to keep the most common allergiens out of my diet for this two weeks. Well, all except wheat. Wheat is in almost everything. Anyway, just a few more days to go. He has been doing pretty good at night and on Sunday he took a two hour nap by himself. So far today he has been asleep for almost an hour. At least 45 min so far.
What allergien would you add first?

Great job Shelby. I’m so glad to hear he’s sleeping better.
I can’t answer your question about what to add first, but I’m sure some of the other experienced moms will be able to help.
