Inactivehave any of you ever gotten mastitis when you were NOT breastfeeding? with all 9 of my kids i only got mastitis twice—and the first time was with my 7th baby. sometime in the last 6 months i got really sore in one breast—but it went away a few days later. i remember telling my obgyn the next time i saw him that i had felt like i had mastitis. he told me you CAN get it when you are not nursing.
yesterday, or the day before, i started to get really sore on one breast again. it is a little hard to find the spot when i try—but when i hit it, it hurts REALLY bad. i can also feel it sometimes when i lift my arm, and i am not feeling really well. i can’t decide if i am just tired from the moving stress, or if i am sick. is there anything else that would cause such a painful area in your breast?October 9, 2007 at 8:09 pm #44024Anonymous
InactiveI am not sure what all the reasons are for painful breasts. I have excruciating pain in my breasts 3 weeks of every month…so I understand how uncomfortable it can be. If you are familiar with the pains of mastisis then maybe you could look into that further. There aren’t any lumps or anything, right? I know those can feel painful, like a bruise. I hope you’re able to find answers!

InactiveThe first thing that pops into my mind is Fibrocystic breast dz which my mom has and I am pretty sure I have as well. It is associated with soreness and painful breast that are caused by cysts that sometimes can show up on mammograms and some doc fear they are cancer so soem people like my mom have to have needle biopsies to make sure it is just a cyst. Not trying to scare you but that is a possiblity as well. I think I thought of this b/c it runs in my family.

Inactivebeth—my sister died of metastatic breast cancer 5 years ago, so i try and habe a breast exam done by the dov every 6 months. the doc says i do have fibrocystic breasts. this pain id different than the pain i usually get, though—-really sharp and burning. my obgyn gavae me strong iodine and i am supposed to take one drop of it i juice once a day and it is supposed to help with breast pain. hope it works.

InactiveChristine, I am so sorry about your sister. Good thing you are so proactive about things. All types of cancer run in my family so when I was diagnosed at age 20 with Malignant melanoma I was shocked b/c skin cancer wasn’t something that anyone in my family has/had until me. I figured I would get breast or ovarian/uterine which is still possible. But anyway, I hope you feel better soon and figure out what the pain is from.
