MFPI is indeed “Multiple Food Protein Intolerance”.
One of the VERY BEST explanations of MSPI and MFPI is the DISA article that is the very first link in Laura’s sticky post in the MSPI section of this forum. (I was ever so glad to read that post when we first learned of my son’s MSPI/MFPI. Thanks, Laura, for keeping that link as a sticky!)
Another good explanation (although completely in medical terminology) is http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic1908.htm. It might be a good reference to provide to a doctor.
MFPI babies are intolerant of more than just milk/soy. Some have extensive intolerances – the worst including corn (which make formula out of the question since Neocate and Elecare contain corn while being milk/soy free). Like MSPI, some MFPI babies exhibit “colic” symptoms, rashes, sleeplessness, while others have blood/mucous in their stool. Many MFPI moms have to do the strict TED diet to either determine their child’s intolerances or simply find a level of foods that they (the breastfeeding moms) can live with until the child gets older.
Quite a number of MFPI moms regularly post on this MSPI/MFPI discussion board ( http://www.quicktopic.com/23/H/aSxbbAkUULVMX ) and have good information about coping with the limited diet, getting enough calories and fat, dealing with the limited menu choices, etc.
I know this reply is about a month late, but I thought I would post a reply in case others might benefit from the info too.
