InactiveOk well I have not been here in forever, but I wanted to comment on what Ann Marie said. She is correct, there are a few that can be given sub Q. The ones that could be given either sub q or im are, HIB and Polio. Varicella (chicken pox) and MMR are supposed to be sub q all the time. The ones that have to be given im are, DTaP, Hep B, Hep A, Prevnar. That covers most of the infant immunizations. Also, just an FYI, if Varicella and MMR are not given at the same time, there has to be AT LEAST 4 weeks between them. The same is true of all live viral vaccines.
Hope that everyone is doing well!!!

InactiveHey Janice!
Always nice to “see” you. Tomorrow is the DT without the P shot, but I am a nervous wreck anyway! I have to say, going one at a time, really isn’t all that bad. If I had another baby (and believe me when I say I won’t
!) I would only do the immunizations this way with one at a time.Hope you and family are all well!

InactiveAnn Marie, good luck with the shots. Please keep us posted. I’ll be thinking of you.
Janice, good to hear from you. Hope all is well.
Anne, Sarah also had a reaction to the chicken pox and got one bump at the site of injection. We were told that even though it wasn’t itchy, it was actually a mild form of the chicken pox, and that it was contagious to other children in the same way that the real pox were. I don’t know if this is completely true… I was worried as I was pregnant with Hailey at the time. The reading I did for the most part seemed to say that this was a contagious form of the chicken pox, but some sources said that even so, it was rare to pass it on this way, while still possible.

InactiveWell Ryann got the mmr and chicken pox on schedule too… I thought everything was going well until we got to the 10th day and she broke out from head to toe with a rash. The dr. said it was a reaction to the mmr that caused headache, body ache, rash, and fever. It’s so hard to be on the look out over a week after you have taken them in for their appoinment! I hope she doesn’t get a reaction. Next time we do it, we are going to do 1/2 shots spaced out, more trips for us, but I wish somebody would have told me that was a choice especially for a baby that seems to react to everything!

InactiveSarah – I hope Ryann feels beter soon. Today is day 9 since the MMR (we
didn’t do chicken pox yet) and so far so good but I’m holding my breath on
that one until it’s been 2 weeks. I think we’ll do chicken pox shot in maybe 4
more weeks and then the flu shot like 6 weeks after that at her 15-month
visit – that way she’s not getting more than one live virus vaccine at a given
time (well other than MMR which is already a combo shot).
