InactiveI know there are quite of few of us moms on here who have been suffering from our own reflux symptoms. Mine had just gotten progressively worse to the point where I couldn’t eat anything without having symptoms. I just felt like my digestive system was totally out of wack for some reason. (Probably stress.)
So I decided to try that Activia yogurt. It’s pretty much just a probiotic in yogurt form. Anyway, I had one every day for two weeks, and by the end of those two weeks I felt SO much better. I hardly ever have the reflux symptoms anymore… I even drank V8 without a problem!
I just wanted to share that just in case someone else wanted to give it a try! Hope it helps!

InactiveI have seen the commercials and would LOVE for my DH to try it. He has horrible poop problems but refuses to be tested and thinks it’s just dairy products…I’m not convinced though. I wonder if it would do him any good. He hates yogurt though…but I’m glad to hear it worked for you!!!! Maybe I can convince him!

InactiveIf I didn’t dislike yogurt so much I’d try it. I just have never been able to acquire a taste for yogurt. So, I guess I’ll have to stick with Pepcid Complete for now. Thanks for the info, though.

InactiveThanks for the tip. I buy that yogurt for the kids all the time b/c it’s pretty high in fat. It’s done nothing for Hailey’s reflux. For me, I think the only cure will come from weight loss back to my ideal weight (or something near it). I think that’s why it’s been acting up, I never had it before. The interesting thing is that for the most part, I just have wicked heartburn. I don’t generally have food flying up into my mouth like Hailey, and I find it awful. I can only imagine how awful it is when it’s heartburn, and regurgitating semi-digested food!
Thanks again for the tip.

InactiveI think you’re right Lori, that it depends on the cause. Like I said, I’m pretty sure mine is from stress, because I’ve never had anything like heartburn before Bryce was born (and heaven knows I’ve had stress since he was born).
I haven’t tried it with Bryce either, but I doubt it would help him. He’s already on a regular probiotic and it hasn’t done anything reflux wise.
I’m thinking that if Activia would work, then a regular probiotic should do the same (for those who don’t want to eat a yogurt every day).
Christine, I’m glad the Pepcid is working for you!
Oh, and Amy, I don’t really have any digestion problems besides the acid reflux, so I can’t tell you if it works on your husband’s type of problem, but it’s probably worth a try! I’m sure glad I tried it.

Inactiveits funny that you write this, specifically about activia. both my dad and mil have horrible digestive and reflux-type issues. my father is too stubborn to try medication or change his diet, which consists mostly of sweets and hamburgers/ bagels and my mil prefers to suffer in un-silence, if you kwim…last summer, my dad was visiting and complaining of his usual “irregularity,” and heartburn and i offered him an activia, explaining how probiotics can really help…to my suprise, he loves them! and continues to eat them daily. also, i found cottage cheese with cultures…
i don’t really get preachy about much when it comes to nutrition, just really try my hardest to eat healthily and cook this way for my family, but i am definitely a strong believer in probiotics. with hannah’s reflux which was tied to MSPI more than anything else, the exposure to these proteins really screwed her tummy up for awhile…we noticed tons of improvement after mixing probiotics in her bottles. then we started to take them, and again really like how we feel…now that hannah’s older, i give her a chewable probiotic (she thinks its candy!) and she takes it without a problem…

InactiveWhich brand of probiotics do you all recommend for adults, and for kids?

InactiveI too suffer and I take Zegerid but I can’t handle the taste of yogurt. I get it so bad that I can feel it all the way up in my ears. I know how painful it is and how sad it is that our little ones have to feel that pain.

InactiveWe use Culturelle for Bryce just because that’s what our GI recommended. It can be used for adults or kids. For Bryce, we just give him 1/4 a dose per day. It’s OTC but you have to ask the pharmacist for it.
