We are going to Hershey Park on Sat. We are really excited! But there is an “east coast waterworks” and bayside pier”. Both of them are things where Landen could get water in his ear tubes. I have yet to find reliable ear plugs for babies. I bought MACK’S earplugs which are like silly putty but they just fall right out! For baths I am just VERY careful when I was his hair and cup my hand over his ear and pour tiny amts of water over his head til the baby shampoo is out. However, these attractions will have splashing and such and I am afraid water will get in his ears.
I’m on the search for reliable plugs. Any suggestions? TIA!April 17, 2008 at 8:50 pm #50529AnonymousInactiveI have seen in the one step ahead catalog a headband type thing that covers the ears to keep with ear plugs in good and the water out. you might want to check their site. I know that you can’t get them by Sat but you might be able to do a search for what the product is and find it somewhere locally.

I went to one step ahead. it is called the ear band-it system. They actually come with ear plugs and the have a size small that is for 1-3 yr olds. I didn’t look at the price. Might be worth a shot maybe not for this trip but for the future. It is the plugs and then a band that goes around the head.

Naomi, our ENT said something similar, but on our release paperwork it said “Mack’s earplugs recommended” so I thought maybe I should be using something. I guess a little splashing shouldn’t hurt then.April 17, 2008 at 9:03 pm #50536AnonymousInactiveCooper’s mom wrote: Jill,

I’m gonig to order some b/c we want both boys to take swimming lessons this summer and that sounds like it would work great!!April 17, 2008 at 9:24 pm #50538AnonymousInactiveI was also told by our ENT that I should “forget about the water” because unless you are dunking their head in the water, it is not going to affect the tubes.
April 18, 2008 at 10:36 am #50553AnonymousInactiveOur ENT is adament that this is the point of the tube, to drain when water gets in the ears….
Dylan’s last tube fell out this fall, but all last summer he went swimming in the pool and went under and was fine…. no infection or pressure, etc….Maybe that sounds different from what a lot of you have heard, but we have not had an issue……April 18, 2008 at 12:47 pm #50557AnonymousInactiveOur ENT told us plugs were not necessary either unless he was going to be more than 1 foot underwater. We have never used them in the pool or anything (but he did not go under) but was around splashing and have not had any problems.
April 18, 2008 at 1:38 pm #50561AnonymousInactiveOur Ent said that we also did not need plugs. He said that the only time should be if she is going to be in pond or lake water. We did not have a problem last summer with swimming or bath time.

Both girls have been wearing ear plugs since the tubes have been placed. I actualy got the custom made ear plugs, which work great, they unfortunately are $100 and not covered under insurance. For the pool and water park, I put the plugs in and then put the Ear Band-it over their ears to keep the plugs in place. I would really reccommend the Band-it, especially if the putty ear plugs just keep on falling out.
