InactiveHello,
I was wondering if anyone has a child that has had a reaction to a mosquito bite similar to my son’s?He has always had bad reactions to them, such as blistering, raised areas, and some itching. The doctor said it was pretty normal until his body gets used to them. However, he got a bite on his temple area of his forehead, it has a quarter sized hard knot, with some bruising. If I hadn’t watched my husband pull the mosquito off of him, I would have sworn he hit his head. This one isn’t draining or blistering. I have made him a doc’s appt., I was just curious to see if anyone has had any similar issues.Thank youOctober 9, 2007 at 1:20 pm #44004Anonymous
InactiveMy sister is allergic to mosquito bites (at least she was as a child). I remember her being covered with welts- large raised hard huge bumps similar to what you describe. I don’t ever remember brusing though. I’ve never heard of that. I think it’s a good idea for you to take him to the doc. You might also want to ask about allergy testing.

InactiveI have really bad reactions to mosquito bites as well. They swell up sometimes to baseball size knots on me with blisters and yes sometimes bruising. The brusing I notice only occured in areas that the skin could not really stretch as much such as the forehead since the swelling stretches the skin so much for me and there is just not enough skin to fully swell up it starts to break the blood vessels in that area causing bruising for me.

InactiveSue,
That is exactly what the doctor said. He said there really isn’t much can be done to stop it except put ice on it immediately after being bitten. He said he will probably always have the problem.I really appreciate the responses from both of you. I had just never seen anything like it. I get really big welts from them, but the don’t bruise or blister.Thank you to allOctober 10, 2007 at 10:43 am #44045Anonymous
InactiveI always carry a after bite stick with me they have one for kids as well, so I can put some on once I’m bitten to help with the itchiness and a cold pack definitely does help with the swelling. Sometimes I do have to take benadryl at night so I don’t scratch at them until they bleed, it is much easier to remember not to scratch so hard awake but at night you just do it unconsiously.

InactiveYeah he seems to wake at night after getting bitten. I will check into the after bite stick.
Thanks, againOctober 10, 2007 at 3:17 pm #44061Anonymous
InactiveMy daughter has reactions like that. What I have found that really helps is to give her a dose of Benedryl right after I notice she has been bitten. We did that just the other night when she got 7. They didn’t swell up nearly as much and don’t seem to be bothering like they have in the past.

InactiveNaomi,
Thanks! I will try that the next time. They are all gone at the moment. Hopefully, with winter coming on we won’t have to worry til next year. -
