Hi… my daughter is almost 3 months old and she is currently taking Prilosec and erythromycin for reflux. She was on Prevacid from about 4 weeks. I breastfed until she was 8 weeks old which at that time doc had me put her on nutramigen because upper gi series showed some irritaition or something to the mucosa in the intestines. So we tried nutramigen. None of these things have really worked. She has gained weight so doc is not concerned. However, after she eats she just moans and squirms and grunts for awhile like she is uncomfortable. Now she has really gotten fussy with the bottle and sometimes doesn’t drink as much. We are now trying Neocate.(which has made reflux worse!) She drinks even less of it. I have tried putting rice cereal in it to help reflux… but that seems to hurt her tummy worse.

I just don’t know what to do. My son had these problems and finally they jjust said Protein intolerance. He presented with eosinophills and damage to the villa in the intestines. Will she ever start drinking good? My son developed a feeding aversion and never took a bottle(unless asleep or otherwise distracted). I am so afraid we are going to get to that point with her.

How long does it take on neocate to see a difference?

I’m so sorry things are so difficult with your little girl right now. I sure know how hard it is to have a baby who won’t eat or is miserable during and after feedings. It’s so stressful and terribly sad. I used to always cry out that “this is not the way it’s supposed to be!” because babies should enjoy eating and be comfortable most of the time.

From what I’ve read here it takes about two weeks to see any significant changes with a new formula.

Have you checked to see if her Prilosec dose is high enough? Many doctors are not aware of the current research concerning PPI dosing for infants and under dose them. My son was on too low of a dose for at least a month before I found the information and convinced his doctor to up his dose. Here’s the link http://www.marci-kids.com/

I hope you find answers and relief for her soon. She should not be suffering like this and I do think that if you get her on the right med at the right dose and on the correct formula, she will improve and you will have a different baby. You may have to find another doctor, preferably a Ped GI to get any results. Just don’t give up and accept that this is the way it’s going to be. I did that with my middle child and she was miserable until she was 9 months old. Fortunately for my son, I found this site and Marci-kids and got him the help he needed.

Thanks… We are now to the point where she will hardly drink at all awake. I really can not believe this is happening again. I have 2 healthy daughters from previous marriage and dh has 2 healthy daughters from previous marriage. Now we have 2 together with these eating problems. I have an appt with specialist in Dallas on the 6th of July.

Good luck with your appt wiht the specialist. I know how hard it is. I had two with reflux as well and I couldn’t believe it either. I hope the specialist is terrific and gives you the answers and help you need for your little girl.

It took Hailey 6 weeks on Alimentum before we saw a significant change. She was nearly 7 months by the time this happened so I don’t really even know if it was the formula or if she was just started to grow out of some of her problems. I’m glad you have an appointment with a Ped GI, hopefully you’ll get some answers. Keep us posted.
