InactiveLast night I was in the shower and Myles came into the bathroom saying over and over again, “Mama, I sneezed. Mama, I sneezed.” So I said, “Oh….Well, bless you sweetie,” to which he replied, “Tink You, mama!” Then he turned and walked out of the bathroom closing the door behind him.
I had to chuckle because it makes me think that he’s so attached to me that he doesn’t even want me to miss one of his sneezes! And he doesn’t want to miss out on mommy’s “bless you.” To earn the trust and devotion of a small child is no small thing!!
Such is the beauty of parenthood. Anyway, when Myles wakes up at night I try so hard to just let him cry a little in hopes that he’ll stop calling for me at night, but he sits up in his crib and calls out in this pitiful little voice, “Mama, where are you? Mama, where are you?” (He sure knows how to tug at my heart
). And when I go in to give him his nuk and blanket he always says, “Tink you, mama. I yuv you.” How can I not get up? How long will I have to get up? Will he do this when he’s 5? 9? 12?
Fortunately it’s usually only once or twice a night but he’s been sick and it’s been 4-6 times a night. I hope that passes soon.ndrose 2007-08-14 19:26:31 August 14, 2007 at 7:49 pm #41068Anonymous
InactiveChristine,
broken sleep sure is tuff, i sure know about that that
, but like you said those litte things make evrything worth it
. I do hope you can get some sleep soon. Being a great mother is not taught, it just come from your heart and the desire to do the best job possible. Here is a biggggggggggg
for being a great mommy!!! kendramom2007-08-14 19:50:30August 14, 2007 at 7:51 pm #41069Anonymous
InactiveOh my gosh my heart just melted! That is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard!!! You do have a little prince on your hands! Sorry I can’t help with the sleeping thing. It’s GREAT that all he needs is a little pat and to see you in the middle of the night, but I’m sure you don’t love always having to get up. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

InactiveOh Christine.. I don’t think you have much of a problem at all! I can only hope Shane will see me the same way Myles see’s you!! That is my goal as a mom, and what I want most!! I think its the cutest thing in the world..and you have done your job well!! 😉 I think once a night isnt too bad.. but I do feel you about the 4-5 times a night sick thing! Hopefully he will be feeling better soon!! and I am sure in a couple years he will probably out grow the mid-night waking. But again, I really admire you as a mom..and can’t wait for the day my son tells me he loves me as well.. even though it can be tiring in the middle of night! 😉

InactiveChristine what a sweetie!!!
Oh I dreeeeeeeeeam of Kate doing that one day. She’s still pretty little and not so aware of whose arms she’s in just yet(as long as they’re daddy or mommy so far)but that is the sweetest thing. I have no advice but man, parenthood sure is beautiful. For me its by the grace of God that we’re given these precious little creatures to take care of and love and that they’re able to melt our hearts even with all the struggles and trials. Incredible!!

InactiveThanks everyone! He is a little Prince and I do adore him! He obviously adores me as well.
He follows me around the house like a little puppy dog.
He plays happily alone or with his sisters as; as long as I am within sight. As soon as he sees my shoulders rise he knows I’m getting up to leave the room and he drops what he’s doing and follows me. When I cook he drags a chair over, climbs up, and stands right next to me. When I take a shower he finds at least a few reasons to come in and chat with me. When I’m on the computer he’ll come over and say, “Ma, I sit you?” (I sit with you?” I really don’t mind but I wonder sometimes if he’s too attached. Even when dh is home….Myles will sit with dh and play with him but if I leave the room he’ll leave daddy and follow me. I don’t remember my girls being so stuck on me at that age. Maybe it’s boy thing. In any case, yes parenthood is a joy, a blessing and a privilege; despite the lack of sleep. Ugg…he had me up three times last night.
I hope and pray that all the love I give him now will help him to grow up to be a loving father and spouse one day. August 15, 2007 at 12:32 pm #41122Anonymous
InactiveChristine,
This is so sweet. I do hope the Cooper is like that. I am so scared that once he is bigger he will be all about Daddy and his racecar and forget all about mommy.August 15, 2007 at 12:43 pm #41124Anonymous
InactiveMyles sounds adorable!!! He must be so cute!!!
My Dylan can be sweet but manipulative. He was in time out for something (daddy put him there) and he started crying and saying “my finger!”, so, of course, I run over to him and did the whole “show mommy where it hurts, how did you hurt it, etc..”, and Dylan looks at me and smiles and says “yesterday on my bike”!. It is really hard not to laugh, but so funny that he already knows what hits my buttons and get out of trouble…..August 15, 2007 at 12:53 pm #41126Anonymous
Inactiveso adorable! Hailey does the same thing at night… and she’s in my bed.

InactiveChristine, that is so sweet. I heard that boys are more attached to their moms than girls are (even though it is not true in our case). Ariella is very attached to me and the second I leave the room, she drops what she was doing and crawls right behind me. It’s actually pretty funny. I definitely know what you mean. Lack of sleep is tough. Ariella’s been getting up 3-4 times a night lately. Last night she woke up at 1 am and didn’t go back to sleep until 2 am. I was rocking her back to sleep when I felt a very gentle touch on my face. It was so precious that I didn’t mind being up. All I could do is kiss her. Sorry, back to you…enjoy this time when he’s attached to you. Pretty soon, he’ll be all grown up and he’ll be all about his friends.

InactiveI know what you mean. I hate to get up when he calls me but once I stumble into his room and see the contentment it brings him just to see my face I melt and I know I did the right thing by not letting him cry.

InactiveSarah was always Miss Independent… never really needing the same kind of attention that Hailey wants. Hailey is SO attached that I often wonder if it’s because of all the extra TLC that she’s needed due to her reflux. She always wants hugs, and to be held, and to be with me every step… sometimes literally, she holds onto my pants if I won’t pick her up when she walks. When I go to the bathroom, the second she notices I hear the pitter patter of her little feet, then the door knob turns, and then I see her peek around “Mummy, I come in?”. Then she sits down on the floor, with a book and asks me to read her a story. Sometimes it’s a bit smothering, but it’s also really sweet. Whenever I feel smothered by it, I remind myself how fleeting this stage is and how one day I’ll be begging for hugs and kisses and attention. So I do try to savour the moment.

InactiveChristine, I think that is soooo sweet. Seth is like that too in a lot of ways. Boys do love their mommies!

InactiveAww….. Myles sounds so sweet.
Parker has been the same way with me. He’s definitely my mommy’s boy – more so than Isaac & Bryce. He has seemed to get a little better about it as he’s gotten older. -
