Inactivecan anyone give any insight on when and how they weaned thier children from two naps down to one? A lot of times I put Brianna down for her nap and she doesn’t even seem tired, but if I don’t do it then, she will end up not going to bed until 8-9pm…so we are thinking about trying to combine the naps…she is kind of young for this…only 10 months…what do ya’ll think?

InactiveI think that’s the age I tried with Henry. It didn’t work so well for us. most days he really needed two naps. there were a lot of cranky nights before bed if he didn’t get that second one in.
I would put him down earlier if he was tired and then on those days, I’d know it was a two napper day. If I could hold him off till later, I’d know it was a one napper day.
We kinda worked our way into it that way. The one naps were about 2-3 hours as opposed to a shorter nap, so that was nice. I found that once we were down to one nap, we shifted the time to later in the day. That helped a lot and that’s probably when it started working better for us.
This method was not good for scheduling my day, but it worked for him.

InactiveMy daughter was ready for one nap around a year old. What happened was she would go down for her morning nap but then resist the afternoon nap until finally at 4pm she was exhausted, but of course I wasn’t putting her down for a nap that late in the day! So I started moving the morning nap further and further back, so now she doesn’t go down until after 11am (and hopefully it’s more like noon or 1pm) and sleeps for 2-3 hours and that’s it for the day. Then bedtime between 6 and 8pm depending on what time the nap is over. Of course, now our trouble is “catnapping” in the car, which screws up the whole day.

InactiveMy babies all transitiioned to one nap before a year. Liza just did it because she was a great sleeper and easy baby so even if she was a little tired I could hold her off until after lunch and then she’d take a three hour nap. It was great for me!

Ellie just seemed to fall into that pattern around 9-10 months because we’d be out and about in the morning and she’d take a little snooze in the car and that would sustain her until around noonish, and then she’d take a long nap along with Liza.
Myles started one nap at around 9 months, too. With him, I really tried to make it happen because I didn’t want to be tied to the house all day with him napping in the morning, the girls napping after lunch and him napping again in early afternoon. So, I started waking him from his morning nap after 1/2 hour, or running errands, going to the park or whatever in the morning so he’d catch a quick snooze in the car. It worked well with him but he really needed that little cat nap in the morning for a while, then he’d take a long afternoon nap…which of course is great for me….all three napping at the same time. Ahhh….

Good luck. I hope Briannna can make the transition, too. I always found the one nap so much more convenient than two naps.
