InactiveGood luck. I also pumped as much as I could, basically the same that Christine suggested. Plus I pumped for an additional 5-10 minutes after every feed, even during the night. It was exhausting. I took the fenugreek and blessed thistle, and I swear I had more milk than a cow by the time I was done! The other thing if you really want to increase your milk supply is domperidone. I didn’t take it, but Dr. Newman did write me a script in case I needed it. He said it works really well and pretty fast I believe, and might also have the benefit of helping dd’s reflux as it’s used here as a motility med. Hang in there!!

InactiveOh ya, if you do the fenugreek/blessed thistle combination, don’t be scared if you smell like a pickle. (I don’t know why it happens, but I smelled and I’ve heard others have also!)

InactiveChristine (ndrose) I’m taking your advise and pump every 2 hours. Due to the frequency, my nipples are KILLING ME!!!
Ever experienced this with frequent pumping?? What did you do? ThanksAlso, how long did it take you to increase the supply? I’ve been doing it for 5 days and can’t say that it increased much. Is there still hope or should I not bother?

InactiveYeah, I did have some nipple pain, but usually it was only for the first few minutes of pumping. Do they hurt all the time, or only when you are pumping? Do you have an LC you can talk to?
Are you pumping 2-5 minutes after the flow stops? And pumping in the wee hours of the morning? Those two things are what seemed to help increase my supply the most.
I think it took about two weeks to see a big increase.

InactiveMarianna, pumping really shouldn’t hurt. If it does, then you may be using a setting that is too high, or a “cup” that is pinching your nipple. I would try a lower setting and see if that gives you some relief.

InactiveChristine, yes, I am doing all those things, pumping early in the AM and they do hurt only a few seconds and go away but it’s very uncomfortable. I started lubricating them with nipple cream, hope that helps. I pump usually 5 minutes after the flow stopped.
Lori, the pain is not all the time and what I’ve started to do is start pumping at a lower setting and then increase it as my nipples get used to it. I feel like I just had a baby, that’s how my nipples hurt when I just started breastfeeding. I’m sure it’ll go away with time.

InactiveThat’s what I used to do….sorry I should have mentioned it….I started at a lower setting and then increased it. If it hurt I’d go back down to the lower setting until it felt better.

InactiveAs for the nipple pain… when Ben was first born, I used olive oil! It was so much easier to apply than the lanolin or creams and you don’t have to wipe it off later. It really helped.
