Zantac dosing information is in above link from Laura’s intro. You won’t find any dosing information for Zantac at marci-kids because their researchers do not believe Zantac (or the other H2 Blockers) are very adequate for treating infant reflux. Some mom’s have had success with it, so certainly give it a try, but make sure his dose is high enough and if you don’t see improvement in a reasonable period of time (two weeks), I’d really push for a PPI. Maybe ask the specialist next week about a PPI.
Crying and fussing during feeds and poor sleep are classic reflux symptoms. It makes me so mad when docs suggest it’s behavioral.

Does he choke during feeds? The noisy breathing and congestion would concern me greatly. Maybe ask about a swallow study….a test see if they are aspirating during feeds. Myles did this for a while (choke and aspirate) and he developed stridor (wheezing) but fortunatley it cleared up quickly once he was on a PPI.
Good luck and keep us posted. I hope his appt next week goes well.

InactiveI think there was a post somewhere on here about mixing the zantac with mylanta (2mls) so the alcohol won’t bother his throat. I did that with Aidan and it worked really well, although yeah the zantac itself eventually stopped working and he did get put of prevacid, but at least I knew it didn’t hurt going down when he took it!

InactiveI gave him maalox once and it didn’t seem to agree with him…he had serveral very large spit-up’s right after. I was wondering if I could just put it in his bottle?

Inactivei would only give him the cherry flavored supreme mylanta. it tastes really good!!! also i would caution about putting anything in the bottle unless you know that he is deff going to drink it all. i like to give my meds on a empty stomache or before a bottle. so they are less likely to spit it up

Inactivei wouldnt put it in the bottle. its suposed to work by coating the esophogus, and the formula may dilute it too much and it will just go right down with the formula.

InactiveI agree with everyone about trying a PPI but also remember that allergy testing isn’t very reliable until they are 2yrs. old. So you might want to also try another formula. You could also be dealing with a milk soy protein intolerance.
