InactiveHello all,
Like I said in my other post, Neocate may be our next option. We are still doing the Upper GI and Swallow Studies to rule out any other problem. The doctor wants to see if 30 mg of prevacid help her inflammation first and the formula switch decision will be made in our follow-up appt on April 24th.
We will not be getting any kind of assistance with the neocate. Our insurance says they will absolutely not cover it and we make a little too much for WIC. So, I need to know what I’m getting into here, moneywise. I stay at home and my husband works.
How many fluid ounces does one can of neocate make? How many cans do you go through a week? Month?
Has anyone tried to switch their child at an older age? Gabby will be around nine months and totally rejected alimentum at 3 months. I think this will be a battle. I’m wondering if the Neocate Junior is much different nutritionally that the neocate infant. Considering she’d only have 3 months to go and the junior is flavored, I wonder if they’d let me jump right on that. Anyways, thanks for your help in advance.

InactiveWe started Paige on Neocate a month and a half ago. It is pretty expensive. I’m in Canada, and I think the prices are pretty similar in the U.S., and we pay $160 for 4 cans (400g each) and we get it directly from SHS, the manufacturer/distributer here in Canada. The can says it makes 2550mL of prepared formula so about 86 ounces. Paige drinks about 30 ounces a day, plus there is always a little bit of waste, so I find 1 can lasts about 2.5 days for us. So the 4 cans last about 10 days. I guess it all depends on how much Gabby drinks in a day.
Good luck, I hope your little one is doing better soon!

InactiveTry calling Apria Healthcare. My insurance said they would not cover it either, unless she received it by feeding tube, which is not needed in our case, she does drink it by bottle. BUT, then I called Apria, and since they are providing it to us, it is covered 100% by the insurance, and delivered to us on a monthly basis.

InactiveWe had big problems with Apria but others here say it has worked wonderfully! I hope its the latter for you if you decide to go that route…its definitely worth a try.
Addy goes through about 1 can every 2 maybe 2 1/2 days. We spend $405 a month on it. She is still on Neocate Infant and the doc says she can stay on that for awhile…we will check back at 18 months to see. I believe the junior has more calories so if you are having a problem with weight gain, it may be better.
We started Addy on Neocate at 7 months and it did take some effort to switch but it wasn’t a huge deal….it was harder switching her to Nutramigen at 3 1/2 months from breastmilk. We did one ounce switch per day. So the first day was 6 oz of Nutramigen to 1 oz of Neocate and upped it one oz of neocate per day.
I hope that helps!
