InactiveOk, so many people are recommending I try formula, since my breastmilk may be bothering Caden. So, is there any way to buy only ONE can of Neocate rather than a whole case??? I can’t really afford it, but I figure if it helps him, we’ll find a way! If I can only buy it by the case, I won’t be able to try it.
Thanks

InactiveI googled Neocate and went to their website
Ordering
Customers may order directly from Nutricia by calling our toll-free number 1-800-Neocate (636-2283). In order to set up an account, please have your doctor’s name, phone number, and address available for the customer service representative.
Perhaps if you called them, you could order a single can. Maybe a pharmacy would sell a single can as well.

InactiveThanks, Robin. I’ll check into it.

InactiveJust something to chime in. I don’t know much about formula because I BF, but I think for some formulas out there you can get your DR to write a prescription, and some insurances will cover it….maybe worth looking into. Good luck!

Inactivei order neocate from our pharmacy, and then i go to osco and can pick up however little formula i want. a lot of the time when i am waiting on WIC, i just get one can at a time.
btw, have you tried the elimination diet….i only say this because breastmilk is much better than formula and its awesome that you are fortunate enough that you can physically breastfeed…have you eliminated all dairy and soy products?

InactiveAsk your dr or GI for some to try. They probably have some from a drug rep in the closet of their offices and will give it to you for free….

InactiveNatalia,
I have done TED and didn’t really notice much difference. I’m thinking about trying again to cut out dairy/soy only just to see if I notice improvement. I really want to continue breastfeeding.

Inactivei agree with sticking with the breastmilk .. plus we all know its easier to digest and thats important for reflux babies too. i wish i could have stuck with the breastfeeding had i known that before i quit. but i would think that the only problem that he would have with your breastmilk would be the things you are eating. sooo if the elimination diet didnt help than i am not sure if a formula would help. possibly the neocate but .. i think that people say it is better than breastfeeding only in babies who have erosive esophogus? but i could be wrong ??otherwise i would personaly stick with the breastfeeding…

InactiveI’m sorry I can’t remember your exact case…but is it necessary to jump right to neocate? Have you tried Alimentum or Nutramigen? They are not the same as Neocate, but they can help if your baby has an intolerance. Of course, I also recommend sticking with breastfeeding if you can…I was just curious if you HAD to jump to neocate?

InactiveThank you all for your suggestions. I may still try the Neocate just to see… I plan to stick with breastfeeding and also maybe try eliminating dairy and soy again for now. I’m wondering if I need to give it more time. I was on TED for almost 3 weeks, but not the entire 3. I gave up when Caden didn’t seem dramatically better as I expected. It wouldn’t hurt me to try again for the full 3 weeks at least or maybe more??? Has anyone had it take longer than 3 weeks to notice significant improvement when cutting out dairy and soy?
I don’t want to do the complete elimination diet again, because although I was happy to lose my pregnancy weight quickly, it was VERY quick – almost at an unhealthy pace (I lost 50 pounds in like 2 months total – a big portion of it from my 2 week stint on TED!). I did gain way too much this pregnancy, but now I’m at my prepregnancy weight and still losing eating regular foods, so I don’t want to go overboard! I guess the nursing is really helping me lose weight this time (more than I remember from before)

Thanks everyone

InactiveAmy,
I don’t have to go with Neocate, but I figure if he is having so much trouble with my breastmilk (even on TED) that he would need the least allergenic formula out there.

InactiveThat makes sense. I understand your thinking.

InactiveAnd of course, I always wonder if it’s more the OALD problem I have causing gas rather than what I’m eating, especially since TED didn’t help…I’ve tried to remedy that, but it still seems to be an issue.
