My son Grayson was just put on Neocate yesterday. He took the first bottle with no problems but every other one was a struggle. While feeding him I can hear his little tummy rumble and growl and he cries out during and after. I know this is only the 2nd day but he seems so much worse in just 1 day. Any insight would be very much appreciated.
February 24, 2006 at 3:21 pm #2371AnonymousInactiveI will tell you that the first three or 4 days on Neocate seemed worse as if it was possible to get any worse! I think a lot of it had to do with the old stuff working it’s way out of Dylan’s system. After that, it slowly got better, and after two weeks, we had a brand new baby. Don’t throw in the towel just yet. Hang in there, because we did experience something similar, but Neocate was definitely a big piece of the puzzle for us!
I think you will get a lot of stories like this, so hopefully other moms will post soon.
Two weeks seems like eternity, but it will be worth it!!!!

I agree! It was awful for a week or so, but now much, much better.
February 26, 2006 at 12:09 pm #2525AnonymousInactiveWe are on day #5. The horrible gas and diarrhea she had before is finally getting better. Still having painful gurgles and gas attacks though. Don’t mean to hijack your post but I think we are starting to have a problem with constipation. The bm’s are starting to get thick and she is having some discomfort. Also, this stuff doesn’t seem to be filling her up like the alimentem and nutramigen. Good luck with the switch, like usual it looks like we have to play the waiting game before our little one’s get some relief! Sarah
March 2, 2006 at 12:47 pm #2842AnonymousInactiveWe just started Neocate a week ago. I noticed the same thing;
stomach gurgling, gas and massive throwing up. The GI doc wants
to wait it out another few weeks to see if she gets better. The
first few days were up and down. One day seemed better, then the
next not. Abby also cries out during at which point I stop and
try to burp her (if she’ll let me without screaming). She burps
huge with this formula and then she can take more formula. I know
the reflux is worse due to how thin the formula is. But she’s
throwing up so much that I can’t see how she has a wet diaper.
But this morning she was actually laughing and giggling. So, I’m
going to wait it out….March 2, 2006 at 1:22 pm #2850AnonymousInactiveSarah and Grayson’s mom, how is it going?
March 2, 2006 at 1:56 pm #2862AnonymousInactiveLooks like this may be the answer I have been praying for. He is getting better by the day. He is so good for my mother while I am at work…laughing and playing.I am so jealous. There are still difficult times than good ones but I am hopeful that before long it will be just the opposite. I do have one really big concern though..he has always had a tendency to get constipated and it seems to be working into that with the Neocate…and the painful gas seems worse. Will this get better also?
Thanks so much for asking about us!
March 2, 2006 at 2:54 pm #2869AnonymousInactiveWe used 1 tsp of dark Karyo syrup in some bottle to help with constipation. it was sort of a science experiment to get it right, but it did get better over time.
I am really happy for you!!!! It is so nice to be getting some answers!!!!!
March 2, 2006 at 3:14 pm #2872AnonymousInactiveIs the karo syrup ok to use if he is MSPI? March 2, 2006 at 3:56 pm #2875AnonymousInactiveIt was for us and Dylan was MSPI. I say was because he can handle dairy in small doses with pizza once in a while and a little yogurt, but we still do not do whole milk with him.
He was on Neocate and soy free rice cereal, and the karyo syrup was fine for him.
March 2, 2006 at 4:21 pm #2876AnonymousInactiveThe gastro advised for the first 3 weeks nothing but the Neocate to make sure nothing else is causing a reaction… but I can’t stand to see him straining and crying to go to the bathroom. I may call them tomorrow and see if the Kayro is ok and maybe he will allow him some kind of cereal or something as he seems to be starving all the time. But then again.. he is a comfort feeder.
March 2, 2006 at 7:20 pm #2899AnonymousInactiveMagnesium works….like milk of magnesia. Ask your gi doc about
that. I use gripe mixture, not gripe water. It has
magnesium in it to help her poop.March 3, 2006 at 7:38 am #2928AnonymousInactiveWhere do you get the gripe mixture? March 8, 2006 at 10:01 am #3253AnonymousInactiveI got it out of the country because my sister lives in the
Carribean. If you know anyone in Canada or elsewhere. I
haven’t seen it here in the US yet, but I wish they would. It’s
by the company Atkinson & Barkers. Maybe a store near you
carries it. I can’t find one yet. We also just gave milk of
magnesia before we got this. Good luck. -
