InactiveJulie,
Thanks for sharing your experience with Nexium. Landen is MSPI and I feel like the solutabs which have lactose in them are bothering him. Whenever I call about them to my GI, he mentions Nexium. I was asking about Caraceam b/c the other types of Prevacid I could use would require some other way to adminster it (I think I would have to go to the capsules if I wasn’t using solutabs). As far as the Nexium, I have no idea how that is administered to a 10 week old, but I HOPE it wouldn’t be difficult or be using a syringe resulting in beads being left behind…I am trying to get past that
I am using a spoon to give him solutabs and that is working OK, but I still lose some of it if Landen knocks the spoon. He as CRAZY arm and neck movements that he does all of the time. He is so restless over all of this.
Thanks again.
I am so glad you are having a great experience with nexium. It’s nice to hear of other drugs helping our babies/kiddos.Jill

Hi,
I haven’t posted in a long time, but do read the messages often as a source of comfort during the roller coaster. He was switched from 30 mg of Prevacid (Solutabs) daily to Nexium- 20 mg. about 1 1/2 months ago and up until about a week ago he was doing great- eating, naps extended from 1hr and 15min to 2 1/2 hours and he was waking happy also from naps and in the morning. Generally speaking he has done so much better on the Nexium and I have to say that I love it too because I give it in the morning and thats it for the day other than the periodic Mylanta/Pepcid complete. He can eat whenever he wants after waiting the 1/2 hour in the morning so I can even offer a snack before bed now and the evening fussiness is generally gone also (seems like the nexium is still in his system and being able to give him a snack before dinner is great- instead of the empty stomach/med/wait for dinner routine). I just upped the dose (okd by doc) to 30mg as he is teething 2nd year molars right now. I hope I’m not jinxing myself but this is honestly the best teething period we have EVER had (he takes about 2 months for every set).
I wanted to write because I have been looking for others taking Nexium but it seems that there aren’t many out there. Tommy was on Prevacid a long time and it seemed to just stop working after many increases, tinkering with Zantac additions, etc – so far it seems to be working. With all of that being said I am nervous about him being on it, but he really does seem to be doing better.
I am curious about the caracream? Why do you need it? I just open the capsule and sprinkle it into some food. I do remember that Tommy did have stomach cramping on the prevacid initially, but didn’t notice anything on the nexium.
caracream is awesome because it is a stable compound, and you dont have to time with meals. we cannot time with meals, my sons eating is unpredicatable (he still has some issues bc he was on the verge of a feeding aversion before prevacid) and it gives me major anxiety. caracream is the original zegerid.

InactiveMy thoughts are with you as decide which med works best. I hated the syringe aspect of the Zantac and prevacid too. I would sometimes come at him from the top of his head and sort of hold his lower face which also allowed me to keep his crazy arms back for a second (hope that makes sense). When Tommy was about 6 months old I would hold the solutab in his cheek until it dissolved then I’d give a little water. We also had major feeding aversions.
It sounds like the caracream would work great- if still available- I hope you find the solution that works best for your child. I also wanted to mention that his GI doc said that if he gets a little more one day and little less the next day because your trying to get a 1/2 capsule or some of it doesn’t get into your child- not to worry, once its in the system for about a week or so, it seems to sorta even out if you know what I mean. You may want to ask how often you need to give also- if once a day, the ‘struggle’ to get the meds in doesn’t seem as bad as having to do it 3 or 4 times a day as with Prevacid/Zantac, etc.
Best wishes, Julie
