InactiveThat sounds a little to fast to me. I think maybe that amount in 5-10 minutes but it sounds like she is just gulping it down.

InactiveIf she’s OK with it, then I suppose there is nothing wrong with it. Sarah chokes and gets a lot of air with nipples that are too fast. We are still on Stage 2’s even though age wise she could be on Stage 3’s…she just can’t handle it yet. The y-cuts were like a fire hydrant and we only tried those a few times before we realized it wasn’t worth it.
Soooo, if she seems to be OK eating that fast then stick with it. Otherwise I’d try a smaller nipple.

Inactivei was wondering the same thing. we only put a tablespoon of cereal in shanes bottles.. and we use the advent nipples that say they are for thicker feeds. he finishes 6 oz. in like 5 minutes!! doesnt really seem to have a problem i think because that is what he is used to…. i guess.. but one without the slit takes way tooo long thickened..
i guess if adriana is comfortable and doesnt seem like she is choking than it is fine.. how much do you add to her bottles??

wow ! Trace gets a tablespoon per ounce of formula and has to have advent stage 2 nipple. anything faster and he will choke on the formula the entire time.

InactiveHow do you guys get anything to come out of the avent bottles with a tbsp per ounce? Just curious, as we have never been able to get anything out with a TSP per 2 ounces! (and that’s of oatmeal, not rice). We’ve always had to use the DB because they have one hole that gets bigger with each level as opposed to avent that adds a hole with each level.
Also, about Adrianna being a fast drinker, my Sarah was lightning fast!! She literally cleared an 8 ounce bottle in about 3-4 minutes! It was scary (and she was huge) but she never had a problem with it ang gained really well. I’d say that as long as she’s not choking, or finishing really fast and begging for more b/c she’s eating so fast, or having trouble with gas from swallowing too much air, I personally don’t see a problem with it.

Inactivethanks,
we are now using stage 3 DB. And I switched to oatmeal which helped her poop. Is 1 tsp per oz too much? And should I be alternating with rice?

InactiveWe did 1 tablespoon for every two ounces so 1 tsp per ounce seems reasonable. I would probably do oatmeal only because rice tends to be so constipating, and if you do both you may have a problem determining which is bothering her if she has a reaction.

Inactiveno, i think one tsp per ounce is what is recommended to start out as. we just only do a tablespoon to 6 ounces (haha), because i am trying to get him used to not having it in the bottle.
and as for the avent nipple… we use one that is called” for thicker feeds” its hard to find, i found them at stop&shop (grocery store). i could never get the cereal out of the normal avent nipples as well, we used to have to cut a slit in them, and that was a mess, because some were slit too large or too small..
and we use oatmeal as well.

i have found them at Babies R Us, just FYI. and they told me they were called “variable flow” nipples. maybe try babiesrus.com and searching for that.
