InactiveWell, Addy is off Zegerid as of yesterday! It wasn’t my doing, she just won’t take it anymore. She started refusing it about a week ago which is really weird for her bc usually, she sucks it down….almost like she likes the taste…yuck! Anyways, so on Monday I took her to the doc bc she was running a fever and found out she has an ear infection so they prescribed her amoxicillin (sp?). Ever since then, she won’t take it at all! It takes me and my husband to get her to take her antibiotic…he holds her down and I pry her mouth open.
But the wonderful news is that she seems to be doing great without the Zegerid! I almost don’t want to say it out loud (well, type it here) bc I don’t want to jinx it! Its such a great feeling but I feel like I have to not get too excited in case she wakes up from her nap and the reflux is back with avengence. Oh, keep your fingers crossed for us and say a little prayer if you have any to spare! Thanks ladies!

InactiveI will say a prayer for her.
I hope she can be med free now. It was a such a relief to me when Myles was able to go off of meds. I think I held my breath for almost a month, though.
My kids are the opposite when it comes to meds, they all love medicine. They will stub their toe and ask for tylenol, and they think the doctor is just the nicest person in the world if they get medicine after a visit.
I hope Addy’s ear infection clears up soon. And I hope she does great without Zegerid. Keep us posted!

InactiveThat’s great! Hope it continues.
We’ve been going through the same thing with Hailey b/c she’s sick. I thought it was either the cold medication OR the reflux meds, not both b/c she’s fighting so much. I chose the cold meds. It was a brutal night….she spent most of the night in our bed, puked on me, and for the first time in forever, she had full blown Sandifer’s. I don’t know if it was co-incidence or not, b/c I would think it would take longer for her to produce acid again. She’s been on a PPI forever.

I hope she continues to do well with out the meds, and that her ear infection clears up soon.February 28, 2007 at 7:58 pm #26118Anonymous
InactiveI hope she can stay med free. Justice has been off for about 2 weeks now. At first I thought he needed to go back on because he spit up a lot, but the ladies on here said it is normal. All that to say give it a few days even if things seem a little weird. The hard thing for me is that I have never had a baby w/o reflux so everytime they get fussy, I think it must be reflux. I have been told though that babies just have fussy days sometimes. Oh, I really hope for you that it works out.

InactiveThanks so much to you all!
Addy has been very fussy today (but hasn’t gotten in 2 good naps) so I have been so nervous.
But like you said Shelby, I am going to give it a few days to make sure. I hope this works!!! March 1, 2007 at 4:54 am #26154Anonymous
InactiveGoodluck Tracy. I hope that things work out for Addy…she looks like such a happy bub in her picture (I guess they are not bubs when they start to walk though
)LOL Christine…sounds like you need a big bottle of “sugar syrup” medicine

InactiveYes, I used to keep a bottle of cranberry juice in the fridge and tell them it was medicine. Then as they got older I realized I might be sending the wrong message….drugs are good and drugs make you feel good.…so I just started to tell them “no medicine” unless they were really sick.
I hope Addy sleeps better today!
Weaning from meds is so stressful. I remember with Myles I was a nervous wreck and every little whimper made me wonder if I was doing the right thing. He had a few bad nights (not in a row, but in the first few weeks) and I almost put him back on Prevacid, but I continued the wean and he did fine. I hope Addy does too.

InactiveUGH! Addy won’t eat! She is still on Neocate only but this morning she only ate 3 1/2 oz when she got up and has been refusing ever since. She normally has eaten 12-14 oz by now. I just don’t know…could her ear still be hurting so she doesn’t want to suck on the bottle. (She won’t take it out of a cup bc Neocate tastes so bad.) She was pulling on her ear yesterday but this is her 4th day on the antibiotic so you would think her ear would feel better by now. She is napping now which is good. She has been really fussy but I am sure she’s gotta be hungry. She hasn’t spit up once. She has refluxed a few times that I have heard but isn’t that normal when you take them off meds until their body regulates the acid production? HELP! I don’t know what to do! I don’t want her to be in pain but should I wait it out?
Also, she hasn’t pooped in 3 days now…could that be the problem?

InactiveUgh…such a hard call….constipation, especially if they never are can mess with a kids eating (my ds is like that)…but then again I would wonder more about the reflux….I know she is fighting it, but could you trick her into her meds and then once she healthy (no more antibiotics and is pooping) to try and wean her from zegerid…I know easier said than done…its such a tough call cuz she’s got a lot going on at the moment
good luck!

InactiveMyles would eat less and less the more constipated he was. So I could definitley see that as being the problem.
As for the ear, usually my kids were better by day 4 but once it took five or six days to clear it up for Myles. I’d take her for a re-check on her ears if she’s not eating better in a few days because no all antibiotics work for all ear infections. Sometimes they are resistant to a certain antibiotic and you have to try something else.

InactiveShe ate 7 oz about 30 minutes ago! Yay!
And I tried the thermometer trick…no luck yet but the nurse at our pediatrician’s office recommended Fleet babylax so I bought one of those in case nothing “happens” by this afternoon.
Thanks for all your help!
