InactiveI am having the same issue with my daughter. She and I both NEED the morning nap. She is driving me nuts with the whineyness in the afternoon. On another note, she is teething and not taking her bottles well at all. I think it’s the reflux, teething, crankiness cycle. Blah. Gabby has been lying in her crib sucking her thumb for the last 30 min but no sleep. Bah! I’m interested in hearing others stories myself.

InactiveIt very well could be that he’s ready to give it up. My thought is there is an underlying cause though…ear infection…teething? Those always messed up Sarah’s sleep. I know what you mean about NEEDING that nap time. I don’t know what I’ll do when Sarah drops to one nap…or let alone drops all naps together! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

InactiveThey’re all different of course, but 9 months seems early to give up a nap. Caden still takes 2 naps per day at almost 9 months. Actually, none of my 4 kids have gone to one nap that early. However, I will say that you know your baby best, and if she does ok on one nap per day, you may need to go with that. Whatever allows you and her to get the most rest with the least fuss…at least that’s my motto
The good thing about her giving up the morning nap is that she may start taking a longer afternoon nap, so that might be a bonus.Good luck!July 23, 2007 at 2:46 pm #39760Anonymous
Inactivemom of 4 is a he
my baby…..anyways he went down for a nap at 12:45 but im sure he ll want another later afternoon which i dont like it since he’ll wont go down for bedtime cause of that late nap… although i dont think he is sick he has never had an ear infection and he is not cranky he just get mad at me for trying to put him to sleep but he wants to be playing all the time i still have to rocking him to sleep cause if i just put him on the crib he’ll be laughing and playing and screaming like if it was a party in there
anyways i hope i can get him on the tack cause i notice since last week he started sleeping in until 10 or 10:30 and not wanting to nap

Inactivehi, Shane did the same thing at around that age! not sure why.. but he wouldnt go down until like 11:30… soo he was just getting one nap a day..and than would be out by like 6:30 pm. so that was kinda nice. but now he is 13 mos. and is back to taking 2 naps! its weird.. but they do let you know how much sleep they need!

InactiveFor me one nap was always the best thing because my babies would take a long (3+ hour nap) in the afternoon once they gave up that morning nap. Maybe he’ll do that for you; skip the morning nap and take a real long afternoon nap.

Inactivehis long single nap wasnt that long at all just 1 1/2 hrs
and he was very cranky after 7 p.m although i tried to put him down again at 5 didnt work at all any ways lets see how he does tomorrow

Inactiveyep..shanes were really any longer.. about 1 1/2 hrs too.. and if i tried to lay him down @ 4 or 5 for a late nap..he wasnt having it… i would try like 6:15ish – tomorrow, instead of 7 and see if he has a easier time going to sleep.

InactiveI would suggest an earlier bedtime instead of a late afternoon nap if your baby is only taking one nap per day instead of two. That’s what the sleep book (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child) I use says. Good luck!

InactiveYou know, I have found that the earlier bedtime doesn’t work as well for my baby. I know that sleep experts always insist that an earlier bedtime is better for babies, but for some reason Caden sleeps better when he goes to bed later (around 9:30pm). Sometimes he even takes a late evening nap (around 6:30pm), and he still does better. I have tried having him go to bed between 6:30-7:30, but he never has slept well when I’ve done that. I guess each baby is just different, and you have to experiment a little bit to see what works for you.
Good luck! -
