InactiveOk, Amelia does these odd movements during sleep at night… she sharply brings her knees up to her stomach and at the same time her head moves from side to side. She does this numerous times throughout the night. She doesn’t do it during naps because she doesn’t sleep long enough… perhaps it wakes her up during her naps?Has anyone else’s lo done this? Is this Sandifer’s??? It does worry me some… I would love feedback!

InactiveMy guess is that she is refluxing in her sleep. My son shakes his head side to side when awake sometimes right before he refluxes.. almost like he is trying to keep it down???

Inactivemy son too.. you can look up past posts of mine.. all i have been trying to solve is his restlessness and weird moving all night long. i have come to think its either reflux or apnea.

InactiveWell, I just went in to check on Amelia… she was doing it again, only this time no legs, just the head from side to side. She was also moving her mouth and tongue as if something tasted bad — I believe I am convinced these are reflux episodes. Does Shane do that Lauren? If so, it’s probably the reflux as opposed to apnea.

Inactivehi mary,
i would think that would be reflux. it is so hard to tell … some babies move a lot in their sleep.. some move because of reflux. i would think is she was moving her tounge it is because of reflux.
i dont think shane moves his tounge.. sometimes i do think he is making a swallowing sound though. its so tough! hopefully someone else can help with those movements..

InactiveMy newborn Evie moves her head from side to side and does the weird tounge thing in her sleep and when she is awake. Her Dr. said it is a sign of reflux that is common in newborns. So I would assume the same goes for your little ones. Of course now she is holding her breath till she turns almost purple so that has me really freaked. I hope once we get her meds figured out she stops that!

InactiveThe head from side to side could be reflux, or some babies use it as a self-soothing technique, but if she seems uncomfortable while she is doing it then I would suspect reflux. The leg pulling is probably gas, you may want to try some gas drops. You can put them in her bottle if she is bottle fed or either before or after a feed if you are bf. Good Luck.

InactiveThanks for your replies Beth, Heather, and Lauren. I appreciate it! Heather, that must be hard when Evie holds her breath! What can you do about that???
