InactiveI am freaking out! I just went to the pharmacy to pick Ariella’s medication and they’re telling me that my insurance company’s not covering Prevacid anymore and they need authorization from the dr. Meanwhile, I have NOTHING to give her tonight. I asked the pharmacist if I can pay for it myself and when she told me the price, I was like “umm, I’ll be calling my dr I guess”. She’s teething and cranky and now’s definitely not the time to see if she’ll do fine without it. I called the dr and G-d knows when he’ll call me back. By the time we figure this out, the pharmacy may close by then and they’re not open tomorrow. What do I give her meanwhile??? I can’t believe I waited till the last minute to fill the prescription

Inactivethat is really horrible. we have been in situations like that and had to borrow money from family to buy the meds out of pocket.
one thing i can thing of though, is getting some otc pepcid comeplete. its an h2 blocker, and obviously not as effective as a PPI, but its better than nothing. i was giving half a chewable tablet dissolved in a teaspoon of water at that age.

InactiveI think and hope you’ll be okay for the night. I would try some pepcid, tums, or gaviscon though. I know with Justice even when I was trying to figure out if he needed his meds. it actually took 5 1/2 days to know for sure. I asked Dr. Phillips about it and he said it can take anywhere from a day to a week I think he said to see a difference. Not sure if that means the meds are still in the system or what.

InactiveSometimes given your situation the Pharmacy can give you a small amount that you can pay out of pocket for. You could ask them for a few pills and pay for that amount instead of the whole RX. Some Pharms will give you 3 pills or so for free due to what is going on or see if the MD office has any samples in the meantime. Alexis’s mom2007-5-25 14:13:13

InactiveI was going to suggest the same thing that Sue did!
I bet they’ll let you just buy a small part of the prescription (I’ve done that before), or ask for samples from your doctor. Good luck! I hope you can figure something out and get the insurance thing taken care of quickly.May 25, 2007 at 4:03 pm #34485Anonymous
InactiveGoing to the dr for samples is not an option since he’s not near by. Luckily I found 3 tablets 30 mgs each stashed in my medicine chest
That should last me two days…whew!May 26, 2007 at 9:33 am #34531Anonymous
InactiveThe pharmacy has to order our zegerid rx every month. I waited too long to fill a prescription once and was in the same OH NO boat that you are! I learned my lesson though and I always keep a few extra packets “hidden” just in case I cut it too close again! Glad you did the same! Whew!!!!

InactiveI’ve been in that situation!..ugh… thankfully the pharmacist knows me by know and fronts me the meds until the doc writes the script. I haven’t had problems with insurance b/c we’re in Canada, so I hope that you can get it sorted out quickly.

InactiveI spoke to the dr on friday (he called me back at 10 pm
He told me to call him back on Tuesday so he can call it in for me but meanwhile to give her Axid. Yeah, right…Axid did nothing 4 months ago and it won’t do anything now. (sigh), I hope this issue resovles quickly…May 28, 2007 at 5:11 am #34661Anonymous
InactiveHow’s it going Marianna? What about pepcid complete, or have you done that already? In Aus we go to the Dr and they give us a prescription, on paper and then we take it to the chemist…is it different over there? Could you go to a walk in or weekend Dr and explain the situation and get an authorisation from them. I find your health system so confusing
