Inactivei would not give a 2 month old on neocate bananas, personally. she is so young to start solids and usually babies on neocate have an extra senstive digestive system. reflux babies usually start solids later than “normal” babies. several moms on here had babies that reacted badly to solids even at 6 months old.

InactiveI’m so glad that you are getting the tests done so soon! I had a 6.5 month wait for Hailey’s which gave me lots of time to worry, but I was worrying about nothing. She also had IV sedation but got gassed before, and she didn’t feel any pain. It was quite easy for her. Having the probe done at the same time as the endo is the best way to do it. That way they don’t feel it going in which is the worst part. I wish that we had ours done that way, but the doc refused. If you ask, they can give you something called “NO-NO’s” after she has her probe put in. They’re basically little splints that they velcro onto the arms over the elbows so that they can’t bend their elbows. That way they can’t reach their faces to pull out the probe. As for the neocate, I can’t comment on that one. My little bottle hater wouldn’t touch anything with even a drop in it. I wish you better luck! Sounds like she’s starting to accept it a bit.
I did want to let you know that I think that stevia is safe to give to babies. At least I hope it is because our compounding pharmacy used to put it in Hailey’s compounded losec (which I only found out later) to sweeten it.
We used to add corn syrup to Hailey’s bottles at one point to get her to poop which made them sweet, but she would always accept them either way. So the only taking sweet things didn’t apply to her.
I’m so glad that you’re in a better place today. Hang in there and keep us posted.

InactiveEileen,
Hi, sorry I didn’t respond to you question sooner. According to our OT, a lot of docs and dieticians have moms thicken bottles with banana baby food even for the tiny newborns just out of the hospital. Apparantly it’s more gentle & easy to digest than rice for reflux babies. I was a little hesitant at first (I thought it was way to young to give anything but milk, but we tried it with Bryce when he was pretty young – about 4 or 5 months and he did fine with it (we were thickening it more so he could learn to eat orally, than for the reflux). It’s not quite like starting your baby on solids because you give them so little and it’s in their milk. It’s really not any different than thickening with cereal as far as that goes. So anyway, I guess in the long run it’s a personal choice. I would just give it a try and see how she handles it. Good luck!October 22, 2006 at 9:41 am #16349Anonymous
InactiveI wish I would have known about the banana thing when Myles was little. It sounds like a pretty good idea to me and I definitely would have tried it.
