we met with the ped today and he finally agreed to try prevacid. hannah has been on zantac now for 3 weeks and although she showed great improvement, it seems like she has plateued. the ped said we could increase the zantac, but if that doesnt work then on to prevacid.

he said to give 1/4 of the solutab once a day. do you think that is enough? she is 10 lbs 2 oz now. he also said to stop using the zantac if we go the prevacid route, but i thought you could use both until the prevacid kicks in?

any help is greatly appreciated!

I doubt that will be enough, but all babies are different. I guess you can only try and see and if it doesn’t work call and ask for an increase.

My little guy really needed the high dose that http://www.marci-kids.com recommends.

Did he tell you to continue the Zantac for two weeks? Many moms here have done that because otherwise it’s like she’s on no meds until the prevacid takes effect, which usually takes two weeks. Just be sure to give them at least two hours apart (some moms and docs say 4-5 hours apart).

we went to my doc today and he switched her from compounded prev to solutabs 15 mgday, what dose is your solutabs my dd is 10lbs 7oz

My son is 3 months old and was on Solutabs until about a week ago. He was probably around the same weight as your daughter and he was on a 1/2 pill 2 times per day (so one pill total per day).

Aidan has been on 30 mg of prevacid solutabs since he was 3 months old…he was a lot heavier though, 16 lbs (yes I know chubby little guy).

Myles was on 10 mg / 3 times daily. He weighed 16 lbs when he started that dose.

http://www.marci-kids.com has a dosing calculator that you can use to compare her dose to their recommendations.

It does sound like a low dose. If you don’t notice an improvement then you might want to try for an increase.
