Omeprazole 20mg rules

I know of the rule for prevacid that it must be given 30 minutes prior to a meal. Do such rules exist for the omeprazole too? Our new insurance no longer covers the prevacid (excluded med) and we are being changed to the omeprazole capsule that we will open and add to a few bites of food.

What can you tell me?

Yes, they all are pretty much the same as far as administering them. It’s best to put the granules in something acidic and smooth like applesauce.

If you’re looking for an immediate release form of omeprozale(fancy way of saying prilosec that you don’t have to time with meals), Zegerid is an option. Kate’s been on it for almost a month and it’s been awesome although every babe is different Just a thought! Although if you’re already battling your insurance company you might skip it……

Zegerid is also on the excluded list. Trust me I have asked for all the tried and true meds from this website – no such luck.

The only meds approved are Protonix, Omeprazole, and Nexium. It stinks – he is a ped pt – there are limitations.

That sucks Laura! These insurance companies make me mad! I’d tell your doc to write a letter to the insurance company that he needs the prevacid b/c the form is different than the losec. The doc can say that the losec is not an accpetable option b/c it needs to be given in a spoonful of something acidic and that Christian has a feeding aversion.

The others are right- it needs to be given on an empty stomach in a spoonful of applesacue and then followed up with a meal 30 minutes to an hour later- same like the prevacid.

Carson is on Omeprazole (which is the generic Prilosec) and he does well with the capsules. I DO have to give it on an empty tummy and feed 30 minutes after, tho. Of course, nothing can be easy with these little ones!
