Aidan was eating around 7-9 oz a day on Similac advance..pushing the bottle away spitting it out etc..after landing in the er for a bout of diarreah (no fever no idea what the cause was, no fussiness, etc) which apeared to be happening for no good reason, the doc told me to try soy…which I refuse to do has too much manganese in my opinion, SO I found similac lactose free..first bottle I made he sucked down 4 oz,, then 4 more oz 4 hours later..first day on it he ate 15 oz….i hope I figured this out and his issue was just that the lasctose irritated his tummy..also switched cereal to oatmeal for the fiber…hope he continues to eat like this!!!
March 7, 2006 at 1:04 pm #3164AnonymousInactiveThat is great! I hope that continues to help. The prevacid solutabs have lactose so you may want to check into another form of prevacid.
March 7, 2006 at 2:20 pm #3171AnonymousInactiveGreat news!
March 7, 2006 at 2:31 pm #3172AnonymousInactiveExcellent news!!
March 8, 2006 at 9:58 am #3252AnonymousInactiveSarah-yep I knew the tabs have lactose but the formula switch wasn’t necessarily b/c I think he’s lactose intolerant, I just wanted to find a formula that would be easier for him to digest without having to give him soy formula-side note I have no idea how I;m now typing in italics must have pushed a button but no clue which one!!! also, when I give him the soltabs, I let the granules fall to the tip of the medicine dropper so he is essentially getting almost all granules and no flavoring, I figured why give him the unecessary part of the soltab. For some reason (ok italics are gone, my computer must be posessed) the granules don’t get stuck in the syringe, and I Can always get them all off the sides by shaking it. March 8, 2006 at 10:22 am #3257AnonymousInactiveYeah i am not a big fan of soy formula either! Funny about the italics though!
March 8, 2006 at 10:24 am #3259AnonymousInactiveHow’s he doing on the lactose free stuff today? We did soy for a bit, but it caused wicked constipation. I always heard that it was high in aluminum load- never heard anything about manganese (not quite sure what that is, actually).
March 9, 2006 at 6:37 am #3363AnonymousInactiveLOL I have no real idea wht the manganee is either just know that I red an acticle that said too much is bad and soy has 25 mcg’s comparedto regular and lacto-free formulas which have 5 mcg’s. Anyway he is doing amazing, ate 13 oz yesterday, and that was 4 at a time, still have a bit of a time getting him to latch on if I have let him get to the point where he’s so hngry he’s screaming, but otherwise I can’t tell if he even IS hungry unless he is crying. There’s no more gagging on the bottle, no more spitting the milk out when he eats (not spitting up, just spitting it out)..I think it’s just much easier for him to digest without the latose..also began giving him the prevacid RIGHT before he eats, I figues that’s better than giving it to him and then him not being hungry and eating like an hour after I give it..it seems to be working ok…it’s just a great feeling to see him finish a bottle…but I know that next week, he may go beck on another eating strike..now I’m not worried because I know that he’ll start eating more when he wants to..for now I’m crossing my fingers taht I kind of figured out the problem
How’s Hailey??? any news??
March 9, 2006 at 8:53 pm #3450AnonymousInactiveGreat news Jill – isn’t it an amazing feeling when you have an empty bottle!!!!
boysmom2006-3-9 20:54:1March 9, 2006 at 9:13 pm #3455AnonymousInactiveJill, Glad that he’s eating so well. Won’t it be nice if that’s the answer!!!! Hailey is still herself, nothing new. We did see the doc today, so I’ll post about that later when I get a chance.
