InactiveI am so sorry I bet that was a nightmare. I can’t remember if they tested Seth for lead or not. I do remember them giving me a list of questions to see if we were at risk but we were not so I think they only tested for anemia. Are we the only ones that have had blood drawn from a toe? That is how they usually take Seth’s blood and I thought that was bad!

InactiveWhen Andrew was 6 mths and finally(!) getting attention for his “colic” (how I hate that word!), we had to get blood drawn for a variety of tests several weeks in a row. Our insurance worked through Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp at that time and both have pediatric centers where they only do pediatric blood draws and blood draws for pregnant moms. The staff there are much more familiar with trying to find veins on infants and kids since that is what they do all day every day. (Granted, even they had a hard time finding the vein one time, but all of the others were not so bad.) I also actively nursed him while they were doing it – but at 12 months that certainly wouldn’t have worked.
We were supposed to go get his blood drawn for lead at 12 months but he was sick at that time…and it still has yet to be done. I don’t worry about it too much since we are in the same house and my daughter’s levels were fine at her 12 month lead check.October 2, 2007 at 10:12 am #43622Anonymous
InactiveTypically they do check for anemia at 1 years old, but most offices have a hemoglobin machine so it only requires a finger or toe stick only a drop of blood for that they the collect on a little slide and can run though their machine and get results immediately. 3 vials! That’s quite a bit for 2 test! I’m hoping he had and extra one just incase! I would definitely just request for an order for the bloodwork and go somewhere else (hospital or and off site lab)!

InactiveOh Marianna, we had the same nightmare for Ben’s appt. His was finger prick, but he still screamed bloody murder because they had to squeeze and squeeze to get all the blood out. His finger bled for forever, and he promptly pulled the bandaid off, and got blood everywhere. After that, he had to get his vaccines!! He was screamed so hard. It was AWFUL!!!
We had to get the lead test (and they also tested for anemia) because our home has mini blinds. I had to fill out a form and check yes or no for questions including some about when our home was built, etc. I checked no for all but the mini blind question, so he had to get the test.Poor babies!!! -
