InactiveMan, I thought we were finally getting away from this part of the forum but we’re hitting big ugly twist in our reflux rollercoaster.

My problem is I can’t figure out if Kate’s really in a pain or just a fussy eater and it’s driving me insane and unfortunately I’m dragging you all with me
Here’s what she does. Her first two feeds of the morning she eats fussily(is that a word?
)and will make an irritated crying noise and pull off a couple times throughout the feed. The other feeds the rest oif the 24hour period are usually fine. I’m perplexed. Could this still be reflux even though it’s only the morning? Before and after she eats and even at the end she’s smiling and gurgling. The feeds are usually really short though but she still makes wet diapers and everything. Are there babies who just aren’t morning eaters? Could this be it? I DON’T GET IT!!!! HELP!!! I don’t know whether or not to take her to G.I or stop obsessing. I’ve just added dairy back in b/c it was driving me nuts not being sure if she had a true allergy or not. Could this be a reaction to dairy?? Ugh!!July 19, 2007 at 6:12 pm #39569Anonymous
InactiveClaire,
Cooper still has some feedings where he is fussier than others. I just attribute it to him being fussy sometimes. I think sometimes we forget that babies are fussy even the non reflux ones. We deal with so much fussing that I think we think once the pain is over all the fussing should stop and from what you are saying most of it has. I would just chalk it up to not being a “morning” baby, but I try to be optomistic these days . Good Luck… I swear she is just so cute!!July 19, 2007 at 9:07 pm #39581Anonymous
InactiveHmmmm….
I think that at this point I probably wouldn’t be too worried; as long as her other feedings are fine and she’s content most of the time.
Could it be that you have a little OAL in the morning? Or maybe the Zegerid is wearing off by morning and that first dose hasn’t kicked in yet.
Oh, and actually my first baby (a non-refluxer) was not a big eater in the morning. She’d sleep 12 hours and then only drink 4 ounces which amazed me. And she’d actually be content if I didn’t feed her at all first thing in the morning. And Myles also was not a big morning eater. He’d usually take only 3 ounces in the morning, even after being pain free on Prevacid.I hope it’s nothing and she continues to do fine the rest of the day.July 20, 2007 at 10:07 am #39615Anonymous
InactiveI was also thinking maybe oal or too much milk in the mornings that are overwhelming her.

InactiveHi Kate,
I agree with the others about OAL or possibly she is just fussy in the morning. I have a friend whose baby doesn’t have reflux at all, but she is sometimes fussy while nursing. She may have a little gas or a tummy ache too. Don’t worry as long as she is doing fine the rest of the day and seems happy at the end of her feeding. It sounds like she’s doing great!July 22, 2007 at 9:36 pm #39723Anonymous
InactiveHey Claire,
I was going to ask about the Zegerid dose. Are you giving it three or two times? Are the feeds before or after the first dose? And, of course the OAL. My breasts are always very full in the morning, so that could certainly contribute. I’m sure the milk hitting an empty tummy in the morning only makes the reflux worse.

InactiveHey Naomi,
It’s her first two feeds of the morning so like at 9 and 11. Those are usually the ones where she’s irritated. It doesn’t seem like she’s in pain but who the heck knows at this point.
Her doses(2)I give to her when she first wakes up(7)and around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I tried giving her a dose right before bed and the same thing happened in the morning so I’m leaning toward she’s just not a morning eater or my let-down is like a roaring waterfall
When I pump, which I never do anymore, but when I do, I get like 3 oz in 2min. Maybe it’s overwhleming(ya think?
)and her belly fills up fast…..I don’t know.July 24, 2007 at 2:17 pm #39800Anonymous
InactiveClaire, there was a thread about this a while back. A lot of our babes with reflux and feeding problems wouldn’t eat in the morning. Hailey was one of them. She would flat out refuse (worse than usual). I think that her throat was at it’s worst in the morning from all the breakthrough acid at night. Can you try to give her some mylanta before her am feed and see if this helps?
