Haven’t posted anything in a while. Was last concerned about how little my son would consume during a feeding. Tried returning to reflux meds, no improvement. Finally tried allowing more time between feeds and that seemed to fix the issue! Turned out around the 3 hour post feed mark I would always assume he was fussing because he was hungry but turns out he was just ready for a nap. 4-5 hours between feeds and he sucks down his bottle no problem.
ANYWAY…I’ve moved on to obsessing over his skin issues. He has had Cradle Cap/Sebhorric Dermititis for three months now and it’s driving me crazy. Affects his scalp, behind his ears, neck, and every once in a while behind his left knee and left armpit. If I put 1% hydrocortisone on the areas of his skin affected it goes away for a day or so and then comes back. I have to persistently apply it to keep the rash from coming back. On his scalp I am at a loss. I have tried medicated shampoos, cradle cap specific lotions, different oils, more frequent baths, less frequent baths…and his head is never clear and normal looking for more than a day at a time. I’m wondering if there is some allergic reaction I’m missing…since he is already on a Neocate Only diet.
When I use oils and brush off the scales his head then looks red and
irritated where the flakes peeled off…and then the flakes grow back
over night- as if they are the “scabs” of this red irritation, and as
soon as I get rid of them they grow right back. If i just leave the
flakes there on his head it doesn’t look red or irritated at all…but after a
few days of no head treatments it gets to look even WORSE. Back to
thick yellow scales. Damned if I do, damned if i don’t!
Anyone found any lotions, oils, or shampoos caused allergic reactions for your little one? I simply can’t wait to see his head look normal!!
