InactiveYou need to make it in a separate container and then pour the mixed fomula into the drop in. The 8oz of formula will be of the mixed stuff- you’ll have a bit left over because after you make 8 oz, it goes up to about 10.
The thing is, if you’ve switched to the drop ins to avoid the plastic issue, you’ll probably be preparing it in something plastic anyhow.
Actually, I came across the other side of the plastics story and will try to post it.
Those drop ins were such a pain for that reason.

i am sorry i dont really understand this part
. also what if i put the powder in first and than fill the water up to the top ? would that be the same as putting the water in first? and i really dont want to switch him again…he seems to LOVE these bottles.. he really likes the nipple!March 7, 2007 at 12:29 pm #26797Anonymous
InactiveWhat I mean is that if you take a regular bottle and put in 8 oz of water, and then add 4 scoops of formula, you actually end up with a mixture that’s MORE than 8 ounces when you measure it. It goes above the 8oz line even without the bubbles. If he drank the whole bottle, some people would say that he drank 8oz, some might say 10 oz or whatever the mixture volume was (i.e. the water volume plus the formula). It’s unclear b/c other people might make up a batch of formula in another bottle, and then pour the mixture to the 8oz line, and call that 8oz (when it’s less than if it’s been prepared the other way).
If you put the powder in first and then fill the water up to the 8oz line, you will not be putting in nearly enough water to come up with the right concentration so you won’t be making it correctly.

InactiveLauren, can you just prepare the formula in a glass bottle and then pour it in? In the end, other than the fact that Hailey was in Major bottle refusal mode, that was the main reason we stopped with the drop ins. I used them for 4 months, and couldn’t stand that I couldn’t mix the formula right inside the liner or drop in. No matter what I did, it made such a mess or had so many clumps and lumps and it drove me crazy and spilled everywhere when I tried to do it out of the house. Then Hailey stopped eating out of the house, and that became less of an issue. The funny thing, is that I switched to dr. Brown’s and I’ve found that I can’t mix the formula up directly in tha bottle either.

Inactivei use the drop ins. I bought a set of medela breastmilk storage bottles at target (they are pvc free) and that’s what i use to mix the milk. You’ll need two mix two four ounces bottle, then put it in the drop in. It’s more cleaning work for sure. Another mom wrote the gerber bottles were ok (pvc free)? maybe you can use thos instead of te medela (since it will probably be cheaper). just an idea, but the medela bottles it’s what i use. I hope you can find somehting that works

InactiveOMG, I’m looking again and can’t find it anymore. It was something from the FDA. UGH!!!! For some reason it’s not coming up!!! Another article said that they were going to give an official statement next week (not sure if that’s this week or the next).
UGH, I hate my computer!!!! I bookmarked it, but when I go into my bookmarks, there’s nothing there!!!
I’ll try again later.

InactiveFor awhile I was making enough formula for an entire day and keeping it in the fridge. I’m sure you could find a glass pitcher somewhere. Then you could just pour each bottle. The bad thing was it took a little longer to heat. Right now Adriana only takes 4 oz’s at a time so I have not crossed that bidge yet.

Inactiveya it would take long to heat it up in those drop ins. .but i guess its a possibility..i forgot about that… thanks..
