Kayleigh’s reflux monster is flaring again. I’m starting her Prevacid again along with Axid. But I was wondering if any other moms have had success just using an H2 blocker vs a PPI for occasional flare-ups? I was using Tums for these times but this episode has gone on for about 3 days now so it’s time for something stronger. My thinking is that since it takes 10-14 days for the PPI to begin working maybe we wouldn’t need it anymore by then. Anybody have thoughts on this? Thanks

to not being on a PPI for a while . .. maybe it wasn’t time to wean and
theres just enough acid backing up that it was too subtle to notice
irritation but its still damaging her throat? I didn’t successfully wean my
dd until 18 months despite trying to cut back on her meds after 12
months. I would say stick with the PPI again and see how it goes . .. don’t
loose hope, it will happen sooner or later!

Emma didn’t like the taste but now she don’t care and the 30 minute rule does not apply, it takes a lot of the worry out. She is on the proper dosage of Zegerid but if I get an instinct that she is still bothered I have zantac and mylanta on the side and I just give some of one of those to help if need be.

She seems to be improving since starting her back on both the Prevacid and Axid. Hopefully by this coming summer we will once again be med free.

My 17mo son is also on zegerid and it’s so much easier with not having to wait with eating, etc. etc. If you think it might be a while on the ppi again you might give it a try. He loves it and we’ve had nothing but a good experience with it. Good luck!

It’s been so long from my end it is hard to believe Kayleigh is a full fledged toddler.
Andrew is still on ppi and will continue until all those teeth decide to pop in…ugh.
However, we did a switch in Sept. and got a new GI (which I love) anyway. I had had suspicions about Kait…thus when we talked with new GI, we ended up putting her on 15mg prevacid at night. Because her symptoms where hardly apparent until we saw the difference when she is on meds. Kait is 3 1/2. We tried H2 for both kids just not enough punch in our case to get the job done for enough length of time. We were having to medicate more. I would say if you are tired of the medicaiton hassle as far as timing and insurance will cooperate with you try the Zegrid I haven’t heard any negatives and it gives you the immediate response like the H2 blocker. If she needs more than less.
Here’s a thought from our GI, we were having trouble with Andrew metabilizing the prevacid to quickly, thus the second dose we could almost set your watch to his waking. He (GI) gave us the choice another dose of ppi, zantac or mylanta.
Don’t know if any of that helps. But I understand your feelings.
Take Care,
Susan
