Prevacid: 2 or 3 times a day?

Hi,

Once again, I need your advise re- meds please!

dd is on prevacid solutabs , 30mg/day (15mg twice a day). she is now 4 motnhs old.

Her feeding schedule goes like this: bottle at 6am, prevacid at 8:30 then bottle at 9/9:30, 12/12:30- bottle, 4pm: bottle, prevacid at 6/6:30 then7pm bottle, 11pm bottle.

I have noticed that from 5:30pm until she gets her second prevacid dose, she gets very cranky, her breath smells very acid and she refluxes a lot. So what I did over the last couple of days is move the 6:30pm dose to 3:30pm before the 4pm bottle, and I have noticed a big improvment ! I hope its not just a fluke but it kinda made me think that there is a gap between the am dose and the late pm dose when the med is no longer in her body hence the acid etc..

My concern now is , will that 3:30pm dose see her through until the morning or should I be better off splitting one of the doses in two so I give 3 doses instead of 2??

I am confused and would appreciate your advise on that one!!

Can you add something like over the counter pepcid (or pepcid complete) for the nights? I’ve heard many babies doing well on pepcid in the evening with prevacid during the day.

I’d try three doses. Myles was on 10 mgs. three times daily. I just took two 15 mg solutabs and divided each one a little unevenly so that I’d end up with two bigger pieces and two smaller pieces. I’d use the two smaller pieces for one dose and then the two larger pieces for his other two doses. It probably wasn’t exactly 10 mgs each time, but it was 30mg each day.

thanks for replies. we did try zantac but she is very unsettled on it, weird baby 😛

I will try to give her 3 doses, thanks for the tip re splitting the tabs so I can more or less give the same dose each time. If it doesnt help, I wil go back to two doses as it is already such a pain to wait before the bottle etc..

I did notice that last night she was a bit more unsettled, whimpering in her sleep whereas normally she sleeps very well with the late evening dose.
