InactiveMy 8.5 week old son Emory (12+ lb) was diagnosed with reflux 3 weeks ago. He has been on Prevacid Solutab 7.5 mg twice per day for three weeks. I recently sent MARCI info to his pedi and his pedi increased the dose to 30 mg total per day. I’m trying to figure out whether to try to third the Solutabs so that I can give 10 mg three times per day (as MARCI recommends) or just give 15 mg twice per day. If I try for three doses per day (every 8 hours), I would also have to wake him in the middle of the night. Thoughts?
Any thoughts about whether it’s really necessary to give 30 min to one hour before a feeding?
Since he started Prevacid, the first two weeks were still terrible, then 4 fabulous days, 3 bad days, 1 good day, 2 bad days. Have others had improvement on Prevacid?

InactiveWe had trouble doing the 30 min before feeding, but we found that it did make a difference for Kaelyn.

InactiveWe give Bryce 3 doses. What we do it one dose at 7:30am, one at 1:30pm, and the last one at 7:30pm. It seems to work really well for him. We had a huge improvement with the prevacid.

InactiveTiming it right around meals is very important, a real PITA, but important. Jole (who used to work at marci-kids) says an hour is ok but closer to 30 minutes is better.
Myles was on 10 mg / 3 times per day. I did not wake him at night to give him three doses. I gave him his doses at 6 – 6:30 am, 2 ish in the afternoon (depending on when he woke up from his nap) and around 7:30 pm. This worked great for him.
As for improvement and dose….Myles improved some initially on a lower dose, but the real and lasting improvement didin’t happen until he was on the 30 mgs. 10 days later he was a new baby.

HTH and good luck. Prevacid was the miracle cure for my little guy. I hope it will be for your’s too.

InactiveAidan takes 30 mg split into 15/15..I usually give it to him on an empty tummy in the morning, then feed him, I don’t wait the 30 mins, well wait, sometiems I do, sometimes I don’t. It just depends on what everyone else here is doing, I have to remember meds for both my kids, and we have seriously hectic schedules, so more often than not he gets it right before he eats. I know almost everyone times the dose, and has more success and I do try to wait a little (usually it is like 10 mins or so before, I give it to him when he wakes up at around 7, then fix his breakfast after I give it to him, then again sometime in the afternoon/early evening). His reflux is under control, but flares up very badly if he is sick (like now) so he is attached to the mylanta bottle at the hip at the momens. I DO however time that, making sure I wait an hour after the prevacid to give the Mylanta (I think I saw soemwhere that i t’s good to do that? if I don’t have to wait PLEASE someone tell me! Would be easier if I didn’t!!!)
I know it sounds horrible, but our house is so crazy and hectic that even when I DID try the timing thing, I usually forgot and either ended up havign to give it to him right before he ate, or waiting to long….Aidan also doesn’t eat 3 full meals a day, he does better with a lot of small meals which makes med timing even more impossible b/c he streaches breakfast/lunch/dinner out a little bit at a time over the day, so that along with bottles means trying to give it to him on an empty tummy is impossible….that said it has still worked wonderfully for us and I would recommend prevaid to everyone who asks!!!
