Inactivethis is really bad! i ran out of caracream this morning and marci kids said they havent gotten my check for more because of some mix up, so Chad is just going to send me caracream today!
i have 30 mg capsules which i cant give Trace with applesauce as he is not eating solids well yet.
now i think i may have to call the doc for an Rx for compounded prevacid.
does anyone know if i am going to have to wait for my insurance to pre approve this again since it is a different form of prevacid….if so , then that will take like 2 days and Trace will have no medication. oh man this is so bad!
remind me again, if i get this done, it has to be 16.8% sodium bicard…but at what concentration do i ask them to make this again? is it anywhere from 2mg/ML to 4mg/ML??
ohmygosh i am freaking out because i have a feeling this wont be ready for about 3 days! Trace is going to be in pain!

InactiveI used to give Myles pureed prunes using a syringe before he started spoon feedings. Maybe you coud try that with the capsules and some applesauce.

hmm i never thought of that. do you think its okay if i do that even though he will probably be gagging the whole time? the reason he isnt on solids is because of his sensitive gag reflex.

InactiveI’d try it but just squirt tiny amounts at a time. Let me know if it works.
How’s he doing otherwise?

InactiveI don’t think it would hurt to add some formula to the applesauce. I know you need to wait 30 minutes but since you are in a bind I would try it. At least he would be getting some of the medication.

InactiveI don’t really know much about it, but could you use apple juice instead of applesauce?

Inactiveim not sure about the juice, hmmmm.
i just tried the applesauce. i put a little water with the beads and the sauce in a little cup.the problem was i could hardly get any of the beads in the syringe. so basically i scooped up applesauce with the beads in my finger and put it in his mouth. what a royal pain in the arse that was! he was screaming.
i guess this is better for a few days then no meds at all, right?now i have a question though, since i have been doing caracream, it is an immediate release suspension like zegerid. now that i am doing the prevacid beads alone, it is considered delayed release. so im wondering, is it going to be like he is on no meds for a few days until the prevacid capsules build up in his system? grrr!!!!!!!!
and he is doign well Christine, thanks for asking! we went back to rice because oatmeal was making him poop 3 times a day.

Inactiveyou know…it would be easier if i could give him a bottle of juice and put the beads in there….im not sure if that would be okay or not…..

InactiveWhen I contacted the company(s) about Zoton and Losec, they both said you could use apple juice. It might make using a syringe easier. I also have had to snip a little extra of the bottom of mine to make the hole big enough to pick up the beads. Alana sucks it out of the syringe now.
I’m not entirely sure, but I don’t think the beads need a few days to build up- the half life would only be 12-24 hours if adults are told to take one every day. Also, I thought it took a few days for PPI to be effective, not because they needed to build up- they act immediately, but because the damage needed to heal for the pain to go away?
Its interesting what you say about the rice- I think I am having the same problem- gassy and poopy, and I swear she must only be getting like a small fingernail size amount down. My chiro suggested I just skip cereal altogether and start with veges. I think i might give it a go.

InactiveI’m glad to hear he’s doing better.

Pooping 3 times a day on oatmeal, hugh? Well, my first two babies pooped 3-4 times a day no matter what I fed them!! They still both go at least twice a day. And Myles is now pooping 2-3 times per day since he outgrew his constipation problem. Our bathroom is the busiest room in the house!

Anyway, I can’t see why a bottle with juice to give the prevacid would be a problem. If he’ll take it that way, it would be great. I wonder if the beads would go through the hole. Maybe you’d have to use a Y cut nipple. maybe snipping the end off the syringe like Therese suggested would work.

InactiveI always confuse myself with the word syringe- I actually use a dropper, more control over sucking it up and pushing it out LOL!
I am going back to work on Monday and I am absolutely sure I have lost to many brain cells to help anyone!!!!!!!
