InactiveOur pedi has prescribed Prevacid Solutabs. Up until a few days ago, the 15mg dosage was working fairly well. The grunting never stopped while sleeping but she wasn’t spitting up and wasn’t refluxing it as much. She could eat peacefully. Then a couple days ago, she started with the congestion (large green boogers), spitting up, refluxing while breastfeeding, etc. So, I increased her dosage yesterday of the Prevacid to 22.5mg (1/2 of the 15mg tablet). Thus far, not as much spitting but still refluxing while breastfeeding, grunting while sleeping, hiccups, etc. Maybe I need to give the increased dosage a bit more time.
My uncle is a doctor and I got him to prescribe us Zegerid. Should I go forward with this? It seems much easier to use, esp with a breastfed baby. The 30 minute wait with Prevacid is killer. Do you give the Zegerid mixture (mylanta/Zegerid) with water in a bottle, EBM or formula? What has been your experience?February 21, 2008 at 8:01 pm #48479Anonymous
InactiveHey! sorry I’m just getting to this! WE also switched to Zegerid because the timing issue was such a pain, and because I could never get the solutabs to dissolve without spilling out of my son’s mouth.
Anyway, Zegerid has been a lifesaver for us. Did you get the 20 mg. packs or the 40 mg? If it’s the 20, then you don’t need to add the extra buffer (mylanta). But you do if you are using the 40 mg. packs. What we do, is just mix the Zegerid with the Mylanta and then syringe it directly into his mouth. However, you certainly can give it with food, breastmilk or formula. Ben would never take a bottle for me, but several moms would mix the medicine with about an oz. of breastmilk/formula and have the baby drink it that way. You just have to be sure that they get it all.Let me know if you have more questions!February 21, 2008 at 9:22 pm #48486Anonymous
InactiveWell, I switched to the Zegerid and she’s done much better. I think it’s b/c I can give her a steady dose 3x/day. With the Soultabs, I can barely get 2 doses in due to the 30 minute wait/empty stomach issue.
I’m going to keep with the Zegerid. I wonder if I can switch off b/t the Zegerid/Prevacid as needed since I have both. Anyone know?I may contact our pedi and “act” like I just found out about Zegerid. See if he’ll prescribe that instead of the Solutabs.February 22, 2008 at 8:13 pm #48525Anonymous
InactiveI’m not sure about the switching thing, but the Zegerid is omaprazole and the Prevacid is lansoprozole. They are both PPI’s but slightly different, so it’s probably best to stick with just one at a time.
don’t forget about http://www.zegerid.com they have a great coupon!February 22, 2008 at 9:42 pm #48528Anonymous
InactiveI agree with Naomi, I’d probably stick with one or the other. We had great results with zegerid too so I’m glad to hear it’s working so well for you! We had the 20mg packets so I never had to worry about adding a buffer. We mixed her medicine with an ounce of formula for quite a while before squirting it directly into her mouth. If you are exclusively bf though, the syringe works great! Anyway, glad to hear you’re seeing improvement and I hope things continue to get better!
