Inactivelast night i came to the conclusion that he is in fact having bad side effects from prevacid. it started with constant eye rubbing, and not just when he s tired. its after a nap, before a nap, in between naps, especially when he’s eating. i did a search on that and found many moms asking about eye rubbing and prevacid, though no one ever really had a conclusion.
i also think he is having headaches. recently i posted about how he is having an “attitude” all of a sudden. he is whiny and has these angry fits. it all makes sense now. this is all because of the prevacid. i dont think he knows how to deal with headches. last night it was horrible, i had to give him tylenol.this is becoming and every day occurence, so today i am deciding to get the zegerid RX filled again. i will have to ask family to help cover the cost for now, and figure something out for the future months. He did so much better on the zegerid.
has anyone experienced effects like these? to me its not worth it. why should he have to feel like crap and have headaches in order to supress acid production?
i did see a post when i was doing a search where a mom wrote her 2 year old became violent and started throwing charis and stuff on the prevacid. that is nuts. this is bad news.

InactiveI don’t have any experience with prevacid, but I’m glad you will be switching back to Zegerid. Trace did really well with the Zegerid, correct? Remember what I said about my pharmacist…it’s worth a shot to talk to him and see if he’ll call your insurance!
Also remember the Zegerid coupons on http://www.zegerid.com don’t expire until December 31st…it’s a $30 coupon and you can keep printing them off every month until it expires! Hope that helps!

Inactiveso i can actually have my pharmacist attempt to do it, not just my doctor? (even though they most likely wont budge)

InactiveNatalia,
I’m sorry Trace is having such a hard time. I had a gut feeling from many of your posts that something was bothering him; that it wasn’t just that he is high needs. You are such a good mommy and I hope you’ve found the answer. I think going back to Zegerid is a good idea.
Maybe he rubs his eyes because he has a headache?
I’m really sorry that your insurance won’t cover it. It’s so wrong…and so aggravating that these insurance companies can choose to not cover legitimately prescribed medications.
Good luck and please let us know how he’s doing.

InactiveNatalia, Have you read the post about Going to the Top? It’s under miscellaneous. Mine didn’t show up as a sticky so I did a bump and then it did so hopefully nobody else has that problem. There is some great stuff about how you can fight your insurance company to get proper coverage for your little one. I used some of the suggestions and got most of our zegerid covered. From 500 a month to 172 so give it a try.
I will tell you to follow your gut when it comes to possible headaches with your lo, as mine used to rub her nose and face so violently she used to leave marks on herself. After we stopped prevacid she stopped rubbing! Good Luck

Inactivethank you guys.
i had already written a letter to insurance and had the doctor call. they said no, its way too much for just one child.
they said they would cover prevacid only.
i wonder if we were to tell him he cant tolerate the prevacid, if that would help at all?
grr this stinks.September 16, 2006 at 9:38 pm #13764Anonymous
InactiveYou can do the CaraCream with omeprazole. I’m sure the insurance would pay for that (since it’s cheaper than prevacid). That basically is the same thing as zegerid.

InactiveNatalia – I didn’t even ask my pharmacist to make the call for me. I found out when I went to pick up the prescription that he had done it. I know they are not the same as a doctor, but you could at least ask if he/she would call for you. Especially since you’ve already written a letter to insurance with no luck.
I think it’s a good idea to tell them that Trace isn’t tolerating the Prevacid. They wouldn’t keep anyone else on a medicine that they were reacting poorly to…why should this be any different? The caracream and omeprazole that Lori mentioned is a good idea too. Try to stay positive…I know it’s sooooooooo hard when you have a hurting baby, but this will all work itself out somehow!Amy
