InactiveCan I cut the prevacid solutabs in half and keep them in a medicine container until they are used or do I have to do one at a time daily? I was wondering because I wanted to cut more than one at a time so that I would not have to keep doing it everyday. Any advise would be great.

InactiveWe would cut the pill in the morning and then seal it in a ziploc bag until the evening dose. I would think that would work for a day or two, but I’d be uncomfortable about doing it too many days in advance.

InactiveI think it depends on whether the solutab breaks evenly without little
pieces breaking off. My GS is on the tabs and DIL asked me about doing
that and that is what I told her.I am not sure how the tabs break as I have not had to give them to him
as mom figured that putting the half tab in water helps because Elijah
just thinks he is geting water. He doesn’t mind that certain dropper
because he uses it for mylanta and he likes that. She use to get so frustrated that she would bring him down to me to
give him meds or dad would hold him down and they would squirt them in
his mouth.Elijha is now doing great except he is still waking with acid at night,
not as bad as before, but still not great for him and mommy.May 27, 2006 at 9:22 pm #8691Anonymous
InactiveI can’t see why they cannot be cut in advance. Just make sure that the place where they are kept is dry.

InactiveIf the solutabs break exactly in half without any little pieces
breaking off, then I would say you could do it a few days ahead.Because then, no matter which halves you give to him, each will be exactly the same dosage.
If the solutabs do not break exactly in half, you will not know if
he/she is getting the right dose per day, assuming that you store them
in one bottle. It is ok to if the tab breaks to use that for one day
because even though both halves might not be equal for one dose, your
child will by the end of the day get the whole amount he is suppose to
get for the day.If though, you wanted to cut them ahead of time and store each
dose in their own individual baggie or old medicine bottle, there would
be no problem.BUT..I would call a pharmacist and ask if it is ok to cut them days
ahead. There might be a reason that they should not be cut days ahead
that we don’t know about.Like will they stay fresh and as effective if cut ahead of time.
If so, how many days can they be cut ahead of time?
Are there any temp requirements like if the are refrigerated will it keep longer?
If they are in heat or direct sunlight will that make them ineffective?
Pharmacists usually know way more about meds than Drs so I usually ask them about meds.
