Julie – I’m glad that the increase is helping Tommy so much but how frustrating that the GI doesn’t agree. Good thing you have the appt with the other GI and that’s great that your ped can write the script, too. I can relate so much. We’re on our second ped and I really, really like him – he’s been very understanding through this whole process when the first ped didn’t even believe us that Tess has reflux. That’s why I was super disappointed that he didn’t want to try an increase in the Prevacid. 🙁 I’m not ready to switch docs again. We visited a GI specialist and he was basically an a$$. We had an appt with another one but when things were going so well with our ped I cancelled it. Now I’m regretting it. I guess we’ll just see how things go for awhile. I know that Tess’ reflux isn’t nearly as bad as some so I try to take solace in that. Keep us posted on what the new GI says.

After less than a week, things were greatly improved. We saw her ped right after that and he happily wrote a script for the increased dosage. The ped GI signed off on it when we saw her at the next appointment. Hopefully, your ped will be willing to do the same!

Update/also posted in the help section: The nurse at the GI spec. ended up calling tonight to apologize and explain what her asst. was saying (I know what she was saying- I just didn’t agree with it). We agreed to keep him on the 22.5 mg a day for now, even though she said this was a really high dose. She still wanted to do Zantac and then increase the Zantac if needed… I told her that I didn’t want that- we haven’t had good luck with that and frankly he shouldn’t have to go back to being in pain when this is working! I did say that after teething was done I would consider lowering his dose… then she said that this dose was probably right for him even after teething...anyway- glad that we got this resolved for now! They mentioned that they put me on a list to see the dr. again- or I could book an appt. for May– I don’t think its appropriate to wait two months for an ill child!
Joel had mentioned the three doses a day too. I’ve been trying to sort out when I could do a mid-day dose with the timing of naps and feedings (I’m still getting used to bottles and solids and timing with naps). I’ll try it tomorrow though because his afternoons have degraded a bit and I was wondering if it was dosing or maybe motrin, although the motrin doesn’t bother him at night.
