I thought that you didn’t have to worry about timing meals i.e could give it irrespective of meals, basically like zegerid. Is it sodium bicarb as a buffer? Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
I really hate to even suggest it, but I wonder if you’re not seeing results because it’s not compounded correctly. I went to a very upscale compounding pharmacy (that’s all they did), and they swore up and down that it was being compounded correctly. Many people told me that this place was the best and that the losec compound was their saviour for their refluxer.
When I told the pharmacist that it wasn’t working and questioned the stability, they freaked out and said that they’ve never known anyone to complain about it and that it was shown to be stable. Then we switched to unflavoured suspension, and 16.8 percent sodium bicarb, still no results. Well it turns out after 8.5 months of no results and a child with a severe feeding aversion, that they were putting sweetener in it that would degrade the drug.
My point is that it might work for SOME children who don’t have severe reflux and who might truly be fine without meds anyhow, but if not compounded correctly it probably won’t be as effective for a child with severe reflux. Whenever a doc tells me to go to a particular compound pharmacy because “they know how to compound it properly and you won’t have to worry about the stability there”, I ask the doc if he knows how to prepare a stable compound. If they don’t know the answer then I know they really don’t know much about it (like most docs).
I’m sorry to suggest this to you again, but I really want Ian to feel better. If I could turn back time I would have done things differently. I know that your doc won’t give solutabs, but will she agree to zegerid. I hope he feels better soon.
