Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the proper dosage would be for a 6 1/2 month, 22 plus pound (huge, I know) baby? Julia has been on prilosec since around 1 1/2 months of age (tried Zantac – didn’t work). She is a silent refluxer, and it is really difficult to determine what is causing her fussiness much of the time. She has great days and awful days, and I am not sure if I should call the GI doctor and discuss increasing her dose. Her GI doctor did say that she does have children on much higher dosages, so I know she would increase it. She currently takes 2.5 mL 2x/day. Thanks for any input!

you can check dosing at marci-kids.com. how many mg/per ML is the suspension?

you have to make sure you are gettting it compounded without any flavoring and with 16.8% sodium bicarb, and made every 2 weeks, otherwise it will become unstable in a matter of days most likely.

It’s 2.0 mg/mL. The pharmacy we get her meds from specializes in compounding meds, and has a wonderful reputation, but I’ll double -check with them regarding the compounding issues. I wasn’t quite clear as to how to figure out the dosing on Marci-kids – probably due to sleep deprivation….

well then is sounds like she is on 5 mg a day-which doesnt sound like it would help at all.

you can go to the calculator and pick a prilosec drug and type in her weight and age and it will tell you how many mg she needs.

my son was started on 30 mg of zegerid (prilosec) at 3.5 months and 11 lbs. we switched to prevacid though now and its working out even better for us.

The calculator only has prevacid and zegerid – I’m not sure how to figure out what the prilosec dosage should be. Anyone able to help?

I called the GI doctor’s office, and of course she is out of the office today. Looks like we’ll have to wait until next week to make any changes.

I’m pretty sure the dosing for Prilosec is the same as for Zegerid because they are both omeprazole. She’s getting 5 mg’s twice a day which is probably way too low.

Maybe try some Mylanta Cherry Supreme until you can get to the doctor next week. Lots of us have used it and it can give some temporary relief. At that age I was giving Myles 2 – 2.5 mls a few times per day.

Good luck. I hope her doctor will raise her dose.
