Prilosec

Does anyone know if you can give prilosec 2x day? Peyton is on prilosec and has been doing better in the last 2 weeks or so, especially during the day time. I have noticed that he seems to be in pain for his evening feeding and pulls off crying. I wonder if I split his dose for morning and night if that will help the evening feedings. I have looked on the marci-kids site but it does not give dosing instructions for prilosec, only prevacid. I will also call my pharmacist tomorrow. Thanks!

I think Marci-kids recommends giving both Prevacid and Prilosec 3 times/day, depending on which one your lo is on. Check out the dosing chart at: http://www.marci-kids.com/dosing.html it lists both Lansoprazole and Omeprazole as 3/day for under 3 months, I just don’t have Dagney’s Prevacid handy and can never remember which is which.

What dose is Peyton on? Are you sure he’s on a good dose? If splitting it doesn’t help, you may need to up it a little according to his weight/age.

I would definitely try splitting the dose. My son did much better when we starting splitting his medicine into three doses. Apparently babies metabolize these medicines much faster than adults, so that’s why they do better on more than one dose. Good luck!
