I think my boy may have DGE. Now that he’s eating more solids, I notice that he often throws up something he ate 3 hours ago. Is that normal, or is that DGE? (Of course I forgot to talk to the doctor about it the last time I was there! Maybe I just didn’t want to face it and conveniently forgot).
Anyway, what do you all know about DGE? Does it go away on it’s own? What treatment is there for it besides Reglan (which I’ve heard is dangerous)?
If he’s eating and keeping enough down to grow and develop normally, do I need to even be worried about this?
Thanks.

my little guy started solids around 6.5 months(i tried and tried to push it off but he kept grabbing at food). everything appeared to be going okay and then he started vomiting 2 hrs after eating. first the doc increased his dose then he was scoped when he wasn’t better to look for damage. this was around the 8 month mark. the scoping showed gastritis(damage to the bottom of his stomach) so we went on the premise that it was delayed gastric emptying and started him on erythromycin. at the same time i also was taking him to the chiropractor. we did the erythromycin until about 14 months of age. everything seemed to be going well.
he did well on a super restrictive diet: gluten free, casein free, egg free, milk free and at the time even applesauce caused a bit of a problem until about almost 2 yrs of age.
if you want to try something a bit more natural first..say 2 weeks..try probiotics. half a capsule in his baby food. try lunch so that you can still see what happens to his poops.
the second time around that he started vomiting…around 23 months or so it turned out that a hiatal hernia was helping him to vomit 2 hrs later. rather than put him on erythromycin again i opted for probiotics and give smaller meals and watch for foods that trigger reflux(tomato products etc)
oh edited to add that we never did the emptying scan because his ped GI went straight for the endoscopy but since your little one is still on the youngish side maybe an emptying scan would be good, less invasive and that way you can feel more at ease at whether it truly is DGE. if it isn’t then maybe the probiotics will help

Did Andrew outgrow his DGE? If so, how did you know?
I’m trying not to panic here, but I’m so tired of always wondering what’s wrong with Myles and his digestion.

I knew something had changed because she no longer spit up hours after she ate (this ended at around 10-12 months) and more importantly she started asking for food or something to drink which had NEVER previously happened.
