InactiveOk, so no Mylanta unless necessary for breakthrough acid. Thanks for your help everyone. Ben actually didn’t seem to mind the taste of it this morning, but he was pretty hungry so he was eating it right up. We’ll see if it’s that way with his afternoon dose. It smells actually pretty good to me. I haven’t tried it myself though. Hopefully he won’t refuse it. I guess I could pump some breastmilk and do it that way if it came to that. Anyway, as for his high dose… we have been blessed with a totally sympathetic pediatrician who looks at new information as a learning experience and not as a threat to his manliness or whatever. He seemed genuinely interested in the Marci kids info. and was totally fine with giving Ben the prescription based on their recommendations for his age and weight.

InactiveWell, he did fine with his second dose, but I stink as a pharmacist.. I’ve wasted two doses trying to get it from the big syringe into the smaller one. The plunger keeps sticking, so I push hard and it shoots out all over the place. There must be a better way to mix this stuff. Can I mix more than one packet at a time and do it in some other container??? I know some of you have said that you do this… do you just stir it up or use something with a lid and shake it? Is it still stable when you mix more than one pack at a time??

Inactiveyeah i mix 2 or 4 packets at a time.
i use a plastic container with a lid. i stir it first because the powder sticks to the bottem and then shake it gently-it has a tendency to leak out of my container if i shake too hard.
its stable for 21 days.November 16, 2006 at 3:47 pm #18162Anonymous
InactiveWe mix 5 packets a time and refrigerate them. We got a bottle from the pharmacy. Works great.

InactiveNaomi:
Believe me, with practice, it does get easier. Do you have the tip caps for the syringes? This is how I mix it. I first take my 35 ml syringe (which I got from the local vet clinic), take out the plunger, put on the tip cap, pour 19.5 ml of water into the syringe, dump 3 20mg packets in (which makes a total of 30ml of Zegerid). I gently insert the plunger (it will only go in a little ways), invert the syringe so the tip cap is pointing up, let the air bubble rise to the top of the syringe, take off the tip cap and gently push the plunger in the rest of the way. I then put some it into the smaller syringe to get the exact dose.
One reason that I wouldn’t do the small container method is I think there would be waste involved and with Zegerid being as expensive as it is, I don’t want to waste any if I don’t have to. By the way, did you use the coupon on http://www.zegerid.com for $30.00 off your out of pocket expense? It is great.
Let me know if you have any other questions – hope this helps
Robin

InactiveA coupon!!!???? Yahoo.. I will definitely look into that. I hadn’t heard about it before.
Thanks for the tips, Robin. I do have a tip cap for the larger syringe, but not for the smaller one. I am going to get one though because I, too, thought about the whole wasting the meds. idea. I feel a bit like a mad scientist in my kitchen these days.

InactiveDon’t worry, it will eventually come so naturally mixing up meds you will be able to do it in your sleep
