InactiveHi,
Here’s a quick update on David:
Biosies from scope did not show excess eosiniphilic cells but did show esophogitis.
Tried Prevacid again. Had terrible reaction to it again.
Back on Zegerid increased to 40 mg in 2/20mg doses a day. He is more cheerful but still having a great deal of trouble sleeping.
Tried vanilla Elecare. Very fussy, bloody rash all over diaper area, runny stools, no sleep. Definitely didn’t help!
Stopped solids until got a baseline and started again slowly. Once again, he reacts to every thing we’ve tried. Sleep gets really bad, he gets fussier, skin rashes, mucus in diapers etc.
I’m wondering if he might do better if I try rotating the things he is least reactive to, doing one per day. I’m not sure what else to try.
Here’s my question: I know I’ve seen mentioned somewhere here a mattress for older kids to keep them elevated but I can’t remember the name. It seems like David hasn’t slept as well since he got too active to stay in his tucker sling. Can anyone help me with the name? Anyone with experience with it?
Thanks,
Kara

InactiveAre you talking about the comfy lift bed? We use it, and I can’t say that it’s helped Hailey to sleep any better. I know that Tiffany (mom2seth) isn’s using hers anymore. You can always PM her and see if she wants to sell since they’re quite pricy.

InactiveLori,
Thank you! That is the one I was trying to remember.

im just curious as to what the reaction to prevacid was?
i feel that my son react badly to it too but i swear SO thinks im crazy!November 29, 2006 at 9:47 am #19248Anonymous
InactiveIt took about 24 hours on it but he got EXTREMELY fussy (the screaming commenced). His reflux was the worst it has ever been, he broke out in a rash, he couldn’t sleep. It is the same thing that happened the first time we tried it. (No one believed me either).
This time the Pediatric GI doc said that he must be allergic to some componenet in the drug and marked his record as having an allergy to to it. (Yeah! Someone finally listened!)
I can’t quite adequately describe how overwhelming this reaction is. He is a fussy baby who doesn’t sleep well normally but this puts everything way over the top and even with the whole family helping where possible it is totally overwhelming for all of us. It took around 48 hours (maybe a bit more) to get it all out of his system and get back to normal.
Nothing frustrates me more than doctors not believing moms when they report a reaction to something! (We are in the process of switching Peditricians because of it).
Anyway, I would trust what you’ve observed and please know that although it is not common and most babies do really well on Prevacid, some DO have reactions to it.
I really wish Prevacid had worked for David because he still has a terrible time getting Zegerid down and I think the solutabs are so much easier. It also seems to be what a lot of babies end up getting the best results with.
Good Luck!
Kara
