Lately Eliana has been complaining, “I have throw up in my mouth and it hurts.” She’s been reflux free since 9 months of age. She has said this now four or five times in the last two or three weeks.
She’s not sick, except for a minor cold.
Can reflux come back after two years?
What do you all think?
October 9, 2006 at 2:06 pm #15236AnonymousInactivePoor Eliana. Your post sounds just like one that 3under3 put out here a while back. Her oldest started complaining about throw up in her mouth too. So, yes, I think it is unfortunately possible that it can flare up when they are older. I’d get it checked out if she continues to complain and maybe you can try to give her some Mylanta to see if that helps.

October 9, 2006 at 4:29 pm #15244AnonymousInactiveThanks, Tiffany. I gave her a Tums today and she hasn’t complained since, so I guess it helped. I have Mylanta in the house (I guess we all do ) so I can try that, too if she complains again.
I sure hope her Reflux isn’t coming back . But, if it’s not that I can’t imagine what it would be. I’ll have to call or take her to the doc if it keeps happening.
October 9, 2006 at 8:27 pm #15248AnonymousInactiveMy daughter (she is now 9) gets reflux when her seasonal allergies flare up……just a thought.
October 9, 2006 at 8:33 pm #15249AnonymousInactiveThat’s interesting….Ellie does have some symptoms of seasonal allergies and takes Zyrtec. Maybe there is a connection.
Do you give your daughter anything when her reflux flares up? Have you talked to her doc about it? Does he/she think she’ll always have reflux flare-ups?
Thanks.
October 9, 2006 at 10:29 pm #15268AnonymousInactiveIt’s interesting that you bring this up. I’ve recently been wondering whether or not Kaelyn’s reflux is flaring up. She’s been having lots of issues with restless sleeping and nightwakings. So, she’s cranky a lot because she’s overtired. She also has been complaining about her “back” hurting, but she points to her tummy when she says it. I’ve also watched her burp, then make a face and run for her sippy cup of water. So, I’m not really much help, but I definitely feel your pain.
October 9, 2006 at 10:32 pm #15270AnonymousInactiveOh no, Christine! I’ve read quite a few people who have had instances where their now older refluxers are back to having flareups. Hope you can get things sorted out for her. Did she eat anything that might have caused it? Poor girl!
October 9, 2006 at 10:59 pm #15285AnonymousInactiveMy daughter takes Claritin for seasonal allergies. I have only given her Tums and she seems fine. She has post nasal drip from her allergies and this causes her to have nausea. My theory is that when the nasal drainage gets to her stomach then she starts secreting more acid……just my opinion though. I hope your daughter rebounds quickly and this is just a fluke.
October 10, 2006 at 9:54 am #15301AnonymousInactiveMy dd is almst 3 & has never utrown her reflux. However, she has now been Prevaid free for 2 weeks. Now somtimes when she refluxes, it doesn’t hurt her. At other times she just asks me for a TUMS. It does the trick every time.
October 11, 2006 at 10:38 am #15379AnonymousInactiveI am wondering the same thing here. I just wonder if Isaac was ever really reflux free b/c it seems like it is back. He wakes up twice during the night screaming and he has been choking 2-3 times a meal lately. Hopefully the tums will continue to help and she won’t need anything stronger than that.
October 11, 2006 at 12:51 pm #15409AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone. So, far the tums seems to help. I had to give it to her twice yesterday. I just hope this isn’t going to be long term problem for her, or for any of your little ones. I thought that once they outgrew it, it was gone for good.
That’s interesting about the nasal drainage…she definitely has some of that. Maybe when allergy season is over her reflux will abate again. I hope so.
